In 2014 and ā15, Lane Kiffin and Kirby Smart were the offensive and defensive coordinators, respectively, on Nick Sabanās staff at Alabama.
Smart left to take the head-coaching job at Georgia, his alma mater, in January of 2016. Kiffin became the new head coach at Florida Atlantic in December of 2016 and after a successful three-year run in Boca Raton, he took the Ole Miss gig and had a solid and exciting first season with the Rebels.
With Steve Spurrier no longer roaming SEC sidelines like he did for the most part of more than two decades from 1990 into the early 2000s, Kiffin has taken his role as the leagueās premier Shit Talker. (To be clear here, Saban would own that moniker if he wanted to but other than his, āIn what, golf [?] jabā at Jimbo Fisher a month or so ago, Saban doesnāt talk much trash unless to its own assistants like in 2016 when he dubbed a sideline tongue lashing given to Kiffin as an āAss Chewing.ā
Kiffin is known for his humor on Twitter and early Tuesday morning, he had some fun at Smartās expense. Keep in mind that Smart is 0-3 against Saban and Alabama since taking over at UGA.
The first two defeats were excruciating, including an overtime loss in the finals of the College Football Playoff on a walk-off touchdown pass. Less than a year later in Atlanta again, the Bulldogs allowed a 28-7 second-half lead to get away in a 35-28 loss to the Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship Game.
There is some recent history with the āFatherā theme as it relates to Saban, Smart, Kiffin and former SEC coaches Will Muschamp and Jeremy Pruitt, so Kiffinās jab isnāt coming from out of left field. Those four former Saban assistants ā and all of his former assistants, including Fisher ā are winless as head coaches vs. Saban.
Georgia and Ole Miss arenāt scheduled to face each other this year. Thereās always a potential date in Atlanta on the first Saturday of December, but the Rebels are still looking for their first SEC Championship Game appearance in school history.
