🏈 Lane Kiffin put a premium on elite defense at ⁦ Ole Miss ⁩, and Pete Golding has delivered

I’m surprised, disappointed even, at the amount of time adults set aside in their day, to cynically troll others for apparent mere amusement. Or is monetary gain also included?

Either I'm unsure on the exact particulars of trolling or I suck at it (maybe both?).

I didn't post the article (or even read it). But Golding has become one of those people/things that triggers much of the fan base... he's not the only one, and won't be the last one... Milroe seems to be the most recent. But, around here at least, fans can feel about that however they want. But yes, I was expecting some flaming arrows in the replies.

I don't know nothing about nothing when it comes to this......but here goes.

I think Golding didn't do well at Bama because he didn't "grow up" in the system (like Smart) or adapt to the Saban way. I think he has/had his ideas and philosophy and they didn't meld well with Saban's philosophy. Kind of like the old adage of making a silk purse out of a sows ear.

I can't remember where Golding came from....I think it was UTSA, but he had done very well there and that was what got the jump to the big time. It was also at the exact moment that the Tosh Lupoi experiment went off the rails. Some folks do well in certain environments. We all know that every aspect of the offense, defense and special teams had Saban's thumbprint on it. Once you earned his trust you got to deviate some, but before that moment, you color within the lines.

My point was that it’s disappointing to see site staff repeatedly admit, whether consciously or unconsciously, that they are trolling members as a means to stimulating participation. Do you not think it makes a mockery of the whole enterprise of fostering the exchange of ideas, discussion and debate? Or as I mentioned, is there a monetary benefit to staff by doing so? Because that I could definitely understand.

Website/message board management isn’t my field of expertise, but without ads or membership fees, I wonder what are the incentives for the admins to trigger or troll members?

Where was the debate when he was in Tuscaloosa and fielding solid defenses; good defenses? Mockery abounded.

The way fans acted then needed to be mocked as it does today.

Soooo … you’re saying Golding’s agent is offering you kickbacks by protecting his image and reputation?? 😄
If he fielded the best defense in the conference last season, what help does he need with reputation? Ironically, eerily similar to the comments we've seen about Sheridan and how disconnected they have been.

I haven’t indicated Golding needs help. Instead, I’ve questioned the incentive for forum staff to trigger and troll members. I can understand if someone else started a thread with a perspective you disagreed with, and you wanted to present an opposing viewpoint for the sake of genuine debate.

What I think (in this particular case) is, you’re hunting for something that isn’t there. At least on my end. As it pertains to Golding, I’ve defending him in the last. I think he’s better than most believe him to be. I’ve also said it was time for him to move on… best for him and best for Bama.

Back to the trolling stuff, I’ll let you go with whatever you like on that on that path. I do think if I was some baiting troller, I’d have been called out on it well before now. I’ve been posting here for several years now. But, maybe so. I’m about to cancel my Saturday plans and do a lot of self-introspection.

Ok then. I admit I only inferred your cooperation with Terry’s original post, since you’re both staff. Sorry if I misjudged you.

Terry, on the other hand, if you can be candid and sincere for one moment rather than evasive and sarcastic, what is your motive for trolling? I’m sincerely curious, not critical. Because if it benefits you (and the staff) in some way, so be it, and I’d understand completely. But if this board is merely a passion project for you and other staff, can you explain the glee you seemingly derive in baiting members to respond? I’m genuinely curious.

Good gawd.

If Durkin would have signed a new contract at Auburn paying him 2.55 there would be a thread here. IF his defense had led the SEC last season that would be pointed out as well. Ironically, he was on staff at Bama as well.

There's two things in this thread. News, that applies to the SEC as a whole. And two, some issues people have with what happened last season.
Where, in this thread, is there something that isn't newsworthy?

Ole Miss had one of the worst SOS in the SEC last year, so all this praise still falls deaf on me. Still not the guy I wanted on the Alabama sideline. Ole Miss was terrible on defense, so he is a welcomed sight for them and that is 100% fine. Enjoy him and hope you aren't so bent out of shape not making the Playoffs again.
