That was actually agent related and fell on Todd McNair.
I meant under the Carroll regime.

Is it logical for me to assume if you think Kiffin's going to be trouble you don't believe Saban "has this?"

it is so funny to watch how so many fans now pull the "trust Saban" card. it is so difficult to simply say, "beats the hell outta me!" lol
sort of defeats the purpose of discussion if every concern or question can be easily remedied with "Saban knows best, he is omniscient, kneel before Saban, etc."
everyone here knows for a fact that had someone proposed a month ago that Saban would want Kiffin as OC, the whole board would have flamed that "crazy" poster out of here! haha

Then why didn't you post this comment on a forum where members have pulled this "trust Saban card?"
Musso is such a positive guy... :biggrin_blue:
It gets richer with every post, OT.
It's one thing telling me how things happen at Bama, but now you're trying to tell me things at TX and you're missing the boat here, as well?
In 2008, when he was hired at TX, he was hired as the running back coach. He was then promoted to co-offensive coordinator. (Now, I could go to the point of citing articles from sites like ESPN, but I'll stick to the official Texas athletic web site.)
...and Applewhite was eventually promoted as the Co-OC and then the OC. I never stated that Applewhite went from Alabama OC straight to Texas OC like you want to believe.
did you miss the quote used in my post? i even put in bold the most pertinent fragment of your quote.
After spending over a week with Saban, don't you think Kiffin understands what's required? That pretty well encapsulates how I'm looking at this. I tend to believe Saban has not only been very specific with what's required as well as possessing the ability to keep Lane in line.

No. Applewhite was a co-OC at Texas before he became the sole OC. Yes, he was also in charge of coaching RBs, but Mack knew that he was getting Applewhite to be the eventual OC.OT, once again, you're talking about something where you have no clue what happened.
I chalked up your comments about Saban as fan exuberance all the time feeling empathy for you because you were being misled so badly. With a degree of reservation I accepted your opinions on Suddes as a case where you didn't know him, much less what he brings to a football program. Now, with Applewhite, my suspicion is you're talking about of your ass.
Applewhite didn't leave because Saban was a control freak. Applewhite left because he was being demoted at Bama and he was offered a position at Texasāa step backwards in his coaching career. In reality, it would mean it was his second demotion in his first year in Tuscaloosa if he had ended up staying in on our staff.
If we're making our judgement based on this...I want Groh!

What you attempted to tell me is I was wrong when I said that Applewhite took a step backwards when took the TX job. This is after you stated he left because "Saban was a control freak."
No. Pretty definitive statement.
There's not a thing in what I posted earlier that's wrong.
One thing you're missing because of a lack of exposure and knowledge about our program. Major, as a player and a coach, was a fan favorite. There's no one here that holds ill-will towards him.
OK. Maybe I read too much into what you were saying. Sorry. You make a valid point that Major took a step down from Alabama OC to Texas RB coach. Truth is, he was heralded down in here Austin as the next up-and-coming coaching prospect when he went from Alabama OC to Texas RB coach. It was widely rumored when Mack stole him from Alabama... though that is highly arguable as Alabama fans correctly point out that Applewhite didn't do much while he was the OC there... that Applewhite was eventually going to be Co-OC and then OC during his tenure per promises made by Mack.
The stats don't lie. And you could make a strong case that Applewhite hasn't really achieved much success as an OC. I still think he has some promise, but probably needs to go some place where he can work his way up again from position coach. I don't doubt that he would later develop into a great coach. Right now though, there are some ethical issues regarding some past indecent Petrino-like controversies that he engaged in that I won't go into as this would be taking this thread further away from its topic. That would, in the short-term, hinder his ability to get hired someplace, but I hope some program will give him a chance somewhere.
Back to Kiffin:
It's interesting seeing fan reactions to this hire. Some ask some solid questions. Others? Well, you be the judge...
This one I find ludicrous.
