šŸˆ Kirby speaks

He's built a great foundation there. But, it reminds me of Saban and LSU...he's looking at "greener pastures."
I was going to pose the question, do you really think Kirby would bolt for the NFL?......but I could see it.

Looking back, Saban, Spurrier, Meyer all tried it. Heck, Bear came within a gnats whisker of taking the Miami job. The thought of not having to recruit can be a huge time saver. Scratch that itch and find out what it's all about.

Not really if you really think like a coach! Their ego must be fed constantly and they are always looking for a challenge. Besides that, NFL money is crazy!!
I would think it is harder to leave your alma mater, see the Bear but get your point. I know the fan bases can get comfortable with success and expect continuous perfrection and be overbearing when there is a hiccup. I suppose that taking winning for granted and the criticism that comes when it is not as easy could get old for these coaches. Honestly this is exactly why I see what CNS has done as incredible. Through all the success he keeps grinding and is able to find a way to push through the expectations and spoiled fan noise.

Understood! Look at Saban after his time at LSwho, around the same age as Kirby now. Pete Carroll when he left USC. They had prior experience in the NFL as position coaches or coordinators. Kirby has that. Coach Bryant didn’t and he chose to stay. Urban Meyer didn’t and he crashed and burned.
From my own experiences coaching at the HS level, I did it. I went from a small classification to a large one and position coach to coordinator in football and from assistant to HC in baseball. Ego, money, challenge, all pull at you.

Just a conspiracy theory… So hear me out. Say Smsrt goes to NFL? Falcons maybe? Coaches there until Saban hangs it up and then leaves the falcons or wherever, and comes back and takes the Bama job. Would we Bama fan’s welcome Kirby back in the fold? I would.

I read that idea last week. Saban's kids graduate; Kirby's kids...See the Jawja three-peat thread. My preference is Sark.

I think you get into a bidding war with Texas......and we ain't out bidding Texas. When you're at a Blue Blood school........it really boils down to control. CONTROL might be a reason for Sark to leave. Good Lord knows, the Texas folk think they know how to run the program better than the coach. Looking at Texas, looking at aTm, looking at Dallas Cowboys. All of them have billionaires that want to have a say so.

One thing is for sure, there will be no shortage of suitors when Saban gets ready to hang it up.

As far as Kirby. I like the idea of him scratching the itch and then coming back to Bama. I know @TerryP made mention several times that Kirby attempted to get the USCjr job as it was getting time for Spurrier to retire. His plan was to go there and coach and come back and take over for Saban..........or that was sort of the pipe dream at one point.

I like at lot that Sarkisian brings to the table... and him understanding the job at Alabama would be a big plus on his resume... but I need to see him navigate into the SEC with the stresses that he's under and see a little larger sample size. He still has a lot to prove to me, but I'd also say Bama could do much worse.

It's comments like that ... it makes me think he's not going to be in college football much longer.

JMO.
One year in the NFL as an assistant...I'm sure someone would take him, but his advantage - much like Saban - is recruiting. That's an advantage you don't have in the NFL. That said, Saban - and from Saban to Kirby - learned from Belichick the way to identify and rank talent, with Belichick making a HOF NFL career on getting talent on the cheap. Saban has to close the deal in recruiting, but the advantage is identifying the players he needs for his system.

It's not a knock on Saban, but his scheme is not dominant without dominant players. Of course, he develops and coaches them exceptionally well.

I wouldn't hate it for it to be Kiffen, but he still has a little more maturing to do. Nothing wrong with his coaching at all IMO. He just needs to know when to keep his mouth shut.

All that said, Kiffen would probably be like Spurrier if he got the Bama gig. Cocky, but could back it up.

I have never wanted Kiffin because he has never proven to consistently field strong defenses. I'll give him credit, he just went out in the portal and got a helluva lot stronger on defense. Yeah, I know he's hired Golding, but if he pulls this off this season and next...I don't think I'd be upset.
