🏈 Kirby Smart

What's the word on Kirby Smart's future? I keep hearing that he is one of the finalists for the Florida State Defensive Coordinator job. Then, I just was told that Smart told FSU he wasn't leaving Bama. Any word from T-Town?

IMHO, I wouldn't think Kirby would leaving here to take a step down as DC at FSU. That is a sinking ship my friend and I don't think they put the life vests on board. I think it would take a head job at a place where he feels he could have some success for him to leave.

At this point I think its 50/50 on whether Papa Bowden stays. Kirby would be wise to let that situation play itself out. The only reason he'd take it, IMO is to get his own identity as a DC. He probably has a pretty good chance to become a HC if he waits.

Kirby will leave at some point. It's only a matter of time. Not because he doesn't like Alabama, doesn't like Saban, doesn't like the fans, etc... It will be for one reason only. He's an excellent coach and should be offered a head position at some point. Maybe he'll come back as head coach some day though.

There's a lot of people in Athens Georgia that would love to see Kirby wind
up with the Bulldogs. I agree with Delta and Nate on the belief that Kirby
will leave only if offered a HC position.
:word:To Your Mutha !!!

I wish the best for him regardless, but I would hate to see him with another SEC team as their DC. If a HC comes open, then I have to be happy with being happy for him.

Agreed. Smart will be a head coach one day, and he'll be extremely successful because he knows how to coach a strong defense. Same can be said for Will Muschamp.

With that said, IF we win THE championship in the next 2-3 years and Coach Saban decides to call it a career, I'd be more than fine with Coach Smart taking over. Not saying it's going to happen, but if it did, he would make a good one.

Since Smart played for UGA and knowing that Richt is an offensive coach that would give Smart almost total control of the defense, I would be pretty surprised if Smart doesn’t end up at UGA next season. I think it’s too good a situation for him to pass up.

Regardless, I don’t think there’s a huge cause for concern if that happens. There’s a ton of young, aspiring DB coaches/Def Coordinators who would love to study under Saban and I am totally confident in his ability to pick the right replacement.

Let us not forget the Cross we must bare. Our program does not have the luxury of simply shopping for a good coach. Our program must have a strong HEAD COACH, one who can run a program cleaner than everyone else (because eyes are watching), corral an over-zellous fanbase (becuase we are), and win Championships (because that is the job). I think there are less than a half dozen men who can handle the job. This is our curse and our blessing.
