this isn't any different news...he has been acting this way the whole time.

he is doing exactly what he set out to do. he has Tennessee getting talked about again, maybe not for great reasons, but they are in the news. hell, we are constantly talking about him, so he is doing something right.

the big question is can he sustain this level of idiocracy (is this even a word)?

Can you imagine all of these men being lectured to because of a child? These are men who are accomplished, intelligent, and successful and they are going to have to be scolded and demeaned as if they were children.

One child has done all of this, one kid. Sure, Kiffin is 34 years old but, he apparently has the mind of an impulsive teenager.

This complete fool has now come up with the story that in order for Tennessee to recruit well, he has to behave as a complete imbecile. That works for him I suppose, behaving as an imbecile. That is what he wants the nation to believe.

Hey, look at me, I acted a fool and embarrassed my fan base, my family, my employees, etc... but I got Bryce Brown. That is how he really sees it and that is pitiful.

Now, when Slive bitches at all of the SEC coaches tomorrow because of Kiffin, where does that leave him?

How does he recruit well next season if he isn't allowed to be himself and attack other coaches or insult players who happen to pick a certain team or insult cities for having high levels of poverty, etc...

What in the world will he do next season in order to reel in the top recruits?

I've always liked Spurrier, even when he was systematically destroying Alabama on the field back in the 90's, save '92 and '99.

Lane Kiffin may be the new mouth of the SEC. But Steve Spurrier isn't going down without a fight.

Earlier Tuesday in Destin, Fla., Kiffin was asked if he would apologize again to Florida coach Urban Meyer for accusing him of cheating. Kiffin responded that he had never received an apology from Spurrier after Spurrier questioned whether he had passed the NCAA compliance test before he began calling prospects.

Honestly, ask yourself.


Does that sound like the response of an adult or does it remind you of a response you would hear from a child just entering their pre-teen years?

Told of Kiffin's comment late Tuesday, Spurrier shook his head and faced Kiffin, who was waiting for an elevator with a couple other coaches. "I didn't accuse you of cheating," Spurrier told Kiffin. "I said, 'Is it permissible to call recruits before he's announced as head coach, before you take the test?"
Spurrier then turned back toward reporters and told them Kiffin took the test online and was unaware that was allowed. Kiffin's face turned red during the 40-second exchange and said something that was inaudible.


Spurrier was still talking as the elevator doors closed, exiting to laughter from media members and probably quite the elevator ride for Kiffin, Auburn's Gene Chizik, Arkansas' Bobby Petrino and Kentucky's Rich Brooks.

I don't care who you are. Being confronted by Spurrier followed by being laughed at by those who are there covering this story from the media...that HAD to sting.

I'll admit that Mike Hamilton, UT AD, seems to have struck out on this hire. His comments of as late about people "misunderstanding" Kiffin seem to indicate he's living in a hole.

But, saying "Kiffin is the best they are every going to get" is simply not true.

The point of Kiffin not understanding the job he was given was evident when he said "I'm getting the Tennessee name out there."

There is plenty of tradition in Knoxville, and the Tennessee name still carries enough weight, that the mere mention of "I'm the UT coach" carries enough power to open most of the doors in the southeast.

UT is the biggest rival I have as an Alabama fan. But, I'm not so blinded that I don't realize that program can be a national power with the right coach in place.

In my opinion, Spurrier needs to focus on coaching at USC - his losing record in the SEC 15-17 stinks. He needs to spend more time worry about winning games than worrying about what Kiffin is up to.

Please don't take offense to this, planomateo, but I couldn't disagree with you more. I seriously doubt a 40 second conversation/confrontation with LK constitutes worrying about what Kiffin is up to. These are SEC coaches meetings so interaction with other coaches, to a degree, is why they are there. Spurrier is not down there to prep his team or I would agree with what you said.

I say, good for Spurrier! At least he acknowledged the 800 pound gorilla in the room and now will move on to something else. If it humiliated Kiffin, even that much better!

I might be wrong, but it seems that Spurrier has said something very similar in the past. Yes, Spurrier is speaking to the 800lber in the room as you suggest, but I guess I just see things as let him do what he does and we should worry about our own stuff.

I'm tired of the Kiffin name in the media and I wish folks would stop feeding this jacka$$. let him do what he does, he will either sink or float ...of course i'm hoping he sinks as he couldn't do it on a bigger stage.

Of course, you are right, Terry.

But, you never know, maybe if I repeat it enough it will become reality. In much the same way that virtually all of the national media said that Coach Shula was the best Alabama was ever going to get and that all 'Bama fans were delusional and irrational to expect anything better, etc... I am creating perceptions that hopefully will become reality.

It is a devious plan cooked up in dark shadows.
