🏈 Kiffin supposes Saban's strategy on Tua vs Jalen, Blake Barnett RTs

Snicker, chortle, guffaw! I'm wondering why in the hell Kiffin needs to keep trying to stay relevant with us bammers...Or is Barnett's reaction even better? Then again, I wonder when he'll transfer to his fourth school.

Saban warns QBs: Don't call attention to yourself

Saban, however, told ESPN's Sage Steele on Tuesday that Hurts told him he was staying at Alabama after the coach fielded a question about the quarterback's future during SEC media days.
"Jalen actually came to me and said ... 'I am going to be here. I am going to be here. I came here to get an education. I graduate in December, and I'm going to be here,'" Saban said Hurts told him.

"I've told both players, 'You've gotta win the team, and everything you do to bring attention to yourself, or anybody even in your family that brings attention to yourself, you're not doing yourself a service in trying to win the team,'" Saban told ESPN on Tuesday.

Saban reiterated that it would be an open competition and that he wasn't ruling out playing both players.

"Both guys have proven that they're capable of making plays that can help you win games in college, and if that's the case, maybe there's some reason to have a role for both players," Saban said. "And if that's the case, that's what we'll try to do."

The question isn't if both are going to play... It's how much. My guess is early on Tua 60/40

As the season progresses, more like Tua 80/20

By bowl season - Tua for the win

Having both #2 and #13 on the roster is a big deal for 2018. JMO but I believe #13 has more potential as a real passer than #2 and if he improves the gain in passing the ball successfully will really help the team. With so many new faces in the secondary it would be helpful if the offense could carry the team until the defense can get up to speed (if that is really the case). We'll see.

If Tua gets a growing majority of snaps early on, I think Hurts' last game at Bama is A&M, and Mac Jones becomes the cleanup guy.

Not saying Mac Jones is better than Hurts, but that would not worry me at all. Jones is a very capable guy and would give us another strong arm to push the ball downfield and let his running game work for him if he ever stepped in during a meaningful game.

That's really the biggest thing for me also. The transition to the next guy is going to have some growing pains. No one really knows who Mac Jones is but the spring game MVP was a welcomed sight for all the QB upheaval we've endured this offseason. The reality was, that had Jake Coker not made the grade in 2015 it wasn't going to help to go to Bateman or Cornwell in the long run. Truth is most years if the starter ever goes down for just about every team out there it pretty much marks an end to NC aspirations. Unless you're Ohio State.

I still hope Jalen does what he told coach Saban he would this season. And also that Locksley has a gameplan that makes the most sense for both.
