🏈 Kiffin says Tua was going to transfer

and why do we care what Lane Kiffin says at this point?

he's no longer on the staff at BAMA. he's no longer associated with BAMA. he's no longer getting paid by BAMA. he's at another school. he should worry about his own players and not bring up stuff about a former place of employment or a former player he may have had contact with.

Well, it's not officially the offseason and that's a pretty relevant topic. We could talk actual football but most of you avoid those threads :rolf:

Lane just wants to keep his name in he media I guess for recruiting and if so he's doing a good job. Does he have a contact on the staff that gave him some info on Tua's family thoughts? I must admit I am not a member of the Jalen is the Man crowd. I see the kid as a great character guy and our 1st game manager that was a run 1st guy and pass if you must 2nd. JMO but #2 could stay at Bama for 5 years and he will be stuck in the same mode he is today and that is all run and poor pass guy. Anybody that was at A-Day this past spring had to leave that game knowing the best QB on the field was #13 even after only 3 months in the Process. The kid gets the ball out quick and he can see early what Jalen still doesn't see after almost 30 starts. Nick getting a lot of cred for making a change at half and salute to him. JMO but the change should have been made 6 games ago. Nick is very very loyal Coach.

He committed to UA when Lane was on staff.... And technically came to play for him as the OC. Pretty sure there are legitimate relationships involved at that point when a kid chooses UA over dozens of offers.

Yes, it's easy to believe that he had a legitimate relationship with Kiffin at THAT point, but not a year later when Kiffin has been gone to another school. Do you actually believe Tua calls up Kiffin and tells him his life dreams and goals or that a current staff member would tell another coach that Tua wants to transfer? Kiffin would be frothing at the mouth to think he may have a shot of bringing him to FAU...

I understand you are trying to stir up conversation and debate and I agree Lane probably had a relationship with the guy. But Tua has stated the reason he came to bama was because of his faith. I don't think that is Lane's calling card.

I much prefer Tua's skill set over Jalen's, when it comes to consistently winning in a pro style offense but both of them are straight up guys with good families and strong character. Tua reminds me of a couple kids that came out of our church and I had a close friendship with their parents and them. Being sneaky, doing something behind the scenes would feel the same as lieing or stealing to them and would be something they wouldn't be able to do.

Tua didn't come to back up, bro.
No doubt... but I highly think he expected to beat out an established QB in the NC game and was planning on transferring if he didn't. Now, after spring ball not being named starter in his 2nd year... I could buy that.

None of you stay in touch with the people you worked with? Of course Kiffin has info on Alabama. Especially in that business... They're all begging for jobs from each other.
I would bet that he hasn't spoken with Tua or Tua's family... speculation and hear say... sure. I don't put any credence into that. Actually, he spoke to it today on SiriusXM college sports and my take on it was that it was his SPECULATION that Tua would transfer because Tua knows he's good enough to start. It didn't sound to me like he was speaking from a direct quote/knowledge of what was going on it Tua's mind.

After watching Tua play like an absolute stud in the most pressure packed moment, do you really question if he wasn't regularly at least competing if not out playing Jalen in practice? Unless of course the O was only practicing QB run's.
sure... but I again don't think he expected to see Jalen pulled from his starting role in season either. If Jalen went out there and was 22-30 passing and won the game, do you think Tua would have announced a transfer after the game? Do you think he might have waited unit spring ball to see if he beat out Jalen for the start in the coming year? Do you really believe Tua mind set was if you don't play me in the NC game, I'm gone ?

Great points. I can appreciate all that. It's all certainly speculation, but that is what discussion boards are 90% of the time.

I think, as reported by many though, Tua was told to be ready to play vs Clemson. When that didn't happen and we threw for like 120 yards after the Auburn and Miss St debacles.... He and his family had to be thinking, "If Saban can't pull the trigger now, he's just too attached to Jalen".

I think he loves Alabama whether he played or not... But those sighting strictly church reasons... There's lots of great churches and religion around this country. There's only 1 Alabama to play football. It wasn't just about church.

No I don't believe Kiffin talks to Tua, but I absolutely believe he regularly talks to his old staff mates. There are friendships involved it goes deeper than football.

Above that, common sense that a kid that talented would flat out want to play. If not given the opportunity, despite a guy ahead of him struggling, why wouldn't he think about leaving?

Yes, when you're the backup you're forced to lie.

Do you have a significant other, Terry? What do you tell her when she asks if she looks fat in an outfit? If you were to somehow answer inaccurately, does that make you a liar or a good partner? :popcorn2:

No chance Tua was staying to backup Jalen. He saw what most of us posters saw at QB ahead of him. Now had Saban "promised" him an open competition heading into Spring and ACTUALLY GAVE HIM ONE, maybe Saban avoids losing him. But I'm pretty sure Saban "promised" him the same out of HS otherwise he wouldn't have come. And again, as the season progressed, we could all see what our QB position became (well, some of us).

But I'm on the Kiffin train here... Choo Choo.

You're on whatever train matches up with the narrative you want to believe. That's pretty obvious.

Yeah Kiffin is known for creating warm friendships wherever he goes :rolf:

For those who are assuming there was an established relationship with Kiffin, what are you basing that assumption on? Kiffin did very little recruiting when he was in Tuscaloosa. Tosh is the one that landed Tua.

You can make all of this you want to but here's the point you're continually missing. Tua spoke about this and said he felt "God was telling him to be patient and he'd have his opportunity." Every characterization you've made so far--including trying to compare what I might say to a lady on her dress--isn't apropos.
