šŸˆ Kiffin: 'Bama trio better than any NFL backfield

Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin said he would take his three Crimson Tide tailbacks over any trio of NFL team ball carriers.

This season, the Crimson Tide will feature T.J. Yeldon, who ran for 1,235 yards and 12 touchdowns last season, Kenyan Drake and Derrick Henry, who had 100 yards on only eight carries in Alabama’s Sugar Bowl loss to Oklahoma.

ā€œAs you guys know extremely well, I think the offense is led by the tailbacks,ā€ Kiffin said speaking at the Dex imaging Annual L’Arche Football Preview, via AL.com. ā€œThere probably aren’t three more talented tailbacks in the NFL on a roster than we’re fortunate to be able to work with at Alabama.ā€

Kiffin was complementary of Henry and says he sees expanded roles for Yeldon and Drake. The Crimson Tide begin their season Aug. 30 against West Virginia at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.

He referred to the offense the team will run this season as a ā€œreally kind of a half-and-half system,ā€ which means they will keep elements of Alabama’s offense last season and change out other parts.

Here's another story that's being taken to the extreme.

College Football Live devoted an entire block on this Friday with the moderator trying to infer Kiffin way off base. The "twitter-verse" had its own meltdown with fans from various teams saying "our backfield is better." Even when those co-hosting the show kept coming back to "he said trio" it didn't stop people from taking this as "the best backfield."

Oh, the offseason and what it brings...

The interesting thing I drew from all of this was every single backfield mentioned has its own weakness. IE: With Bama's, fumbles inside the redzone. With Georgia's, injury riddled/prone.

I saw that show the other night, and I agree with Brad Edwards. Those three are complete studs, and I'm glad we have them. They have to learn, however, to quite fumbling the ball so much, esp. in the red zone.

I strongly endorse Nick Saban's policy of keeping his assistant coaches out of the public eye. The sports press is continually trolling for an opportunity to convert any comment by an Alabama player or coach into a headline. Maybe Lane Kiffin was a little exuberant with his "trio" comment, but what of it? He has the coaching experience to make this judgment in an authoritative way and T.J./DH/KD (& I'll add Jalston Fowler) really do comprise an amazing set of backs.

Our backfield has more talent than any backfield in the country. Georgia fans try to act like they're our equal, but two of their backs don't even have a carry, and one is coming of an ACL injury he suffered not even halfway into his Sophomore season. I'm willing to put money on our backfield rushing for more yards per carry than any other backfield in the county. At over six per carry, pretty amazing. I won't say total yards with Tech, Navy, and other triple option teams out there, but for as balanced as we are, it shows our backs are better than the rest.
