🏈 just rewatched the 1st half of the kent state game

the difference between mccarron and sims is alot closer than you might think at first glance..

a couple of sims's drives got stopped by poor blocking.. we had a freshman left tackle playing while sims was in the game and an all-american playing left tackle for mccarron..

sims also had a reciever pull back on a route because of pressure.. the pass was a well thrown ball, but fell incomplete..


i am not pulling for any one qb over the other, but i think sims might be getting a bit of a raw deal from the press.. they actually both played very well through the first half..


even Trich was a victim to backside pressure from missed blocking assignments a time or two..

i think our qb situation is looking very good and is still alot closer than some might realize..

i think the mistakes were equal, but sims had the bad luck of his mistakes being more costly..

i really don't see this thing playing out anytime soon... i would be willing to bet that we play two qb's all year.. we might not schedule their rotation, but i bet they will both get plenty of meaningful snaps..

In my opinion, if we drag this qb battle out all season, it will cost us some games. I imagine it's hard to settle in the position if you're constantly worried that a mistake may cost you the starting spot.

I'm no coach, but I'm less than thrilled that we are taking our qb audition on the road, against a good team, in one of the toughest stadiums we'll play in all season.

i agree, and i think most fans do too, but after watching the film more closely i am starting to think that next week sims might be the hero or vice versa.. i bet the coaches are wishing someone would stand out, but they are just both really good.. i bet the coaches are in a tough position trying to make this decision..

i really think that our apparent loss of rhythm was more due to the changes in the oline instead of the change in qb's..

i didn't get that feeling at all. sims looks uncomfortable on pretty much every passing attempt... even when not being pressured. he holds the ball too long and seemed to freeze and lock on to a receiver as his first option and doesn't check down.

one of AJ's picks is a tipped ball that should have been caught by our tight end.

if they both play at Penn St. i think the speculation will be over. if the deer in the headlights look i saw at kent st. from sims was real, it should be a lot worse playing at penn st. in happy valley... though i'm sure there will be no shortage of butterflies in either of their stomachs.

i'm glad i don't have to make that decision. that must be stressful. it would be nice to have a couple more gimme games lined up so that the two could duke it out for a longer period, but you need a win saturday against a possibly good opponent so...

I could not agree with this more Argo. The only time I've ever saw playing 2 QB's on a regular basis even remotely work is when the QB's have two totally different skill sets, like one being a pocket passer and the other being a runner/scrambler. Kinda like the Tebow/Leak combo UF used.

I'm confident Saban and staff know what they are doing, but it still makes the arm chair coach in me nervous.

McElwain—I'm paraphrasing here—put it best a few weeks ago. There's a huge difference between having two quarterbacks who can play and having two quarterbacks and you're looking for one to play.

I hate to bring up the question since I got lambasted a few weeks ago for questioning our OL, but wouldn't it help our OL to have one QB? That way they can learn the tendencies, and if they get beat they know if they guy will slide out or go inside, or whatever?

one of sims's int's was because he got hit in the back right as he released the ball.. if he was guilty of anything on that play it was not checking off at the line of scrimmage, but the blitz was disguised pretty well..

also mccarron threw 2 passes in the second quarter back to back that should have been picked off.. the biggest difference in the game was that sims didn't get any of the lucky breaks..

i think we should all remember that sims had never played in a college game before saturday..

again, i am not partial to any one qb over the other.. i am just starting to think that the kent state game didn't separate them as much as i previously thought..

I'd certainly be with you thinking about how it can have a bearing on rhythm. Cadence alone, ya know?
