I believe it was! I was on the front row in the end zone sitting next to a WWII vet that was a Barner fan. I didn’t punch him though! That was actually the most fun I have ever had interacting with a Barner to this day! We talked more about his time battling in the Pacific than we did discussing the game and rivalry.

When I lived in Nashville, 79-84, I would go to a lot of Vandy games. I currently live about 50 minutes from Marshall and a touch over and hour from Ohio University and have been there a few times.

I'd think about arguing you can tell which part of the state someone grew up by which game: UT or AU.

Also the window of time they grew up. That leaves an impression in your early years of becoming a Bama fan. Mt teen years was during the 70s and the Bear owned the Barn execpt for the 72 fluke....

Had to go look that on up but you are right bama was 9-1 against the Viles, same as the Barn. I guess that was the Bill Battle years in Knoscville. Another factor is how close I lived to the Bama/Tn state line and interacted with Vile people alot more than Barners.
