🏈 John Parker Wilson spent most of the night...

Agree! I think Joe Montana would have had a hard time tonight.

He was on an island many times tonight. It's just unfortunate that Andre made such a huge mistake and that Mike Johnson got hurt right away. With Utah's speed and aggression it was just too hard to patchwork a line on the spot.

Not sure how the rest of you feel, but I will not blame the kid for this game.

The line was like musical chairs and I thnk he did all anyone could do. Sad he has to leave on this note after all the great things he did this season.

That's what I'm saying. I'm not blaming Wilson; I'm taking up for him. His o-line didn't protect him very well, and they didn't do much to open up the running game. It absolutely isn't his fault that Bama lost.

Also, Wilson didn't miss any tackles or get burned for any touchdowns.

The o-line and the D are primarily responsible.

I feel that we need to give credit where it is due. Utah's players and coach were ready for this game and they earned the win. Our players were outmatched and Andre playing in this game only gives us a better shot at winning it.

I never said YOU were blaming him. I just know some people will/are.

I'm not going to lay the loss at his feet, but I'm not shedding any tears over this being his last game either.

I'm not agreeing with you, but we have to get a QB like the Utah's, Oklahoma's and Texas's of this world. We have to get one that can sling it further than 30 yards.

Alabama with a game winner and not a game manager = different story for the season. Again, look only at the above teams + more for proof.

I'll just cut right to what I think:

I believe in poetic justice...and justice was served. Thanks to the selfish acts from WHOMEVER, Andre did not play.

His punishment was being sent home, but I'm sure watching us get DESTROYED on national television was an even worse punishment.

Maybe us getting KILLED was punishment for certain people being selfish. You get what you deserve, and maybe this was the penalty for this whole thing.

In respect to JPW, thanks for a great career!!

And Saban may have very well had the foresight to take a lump here and make the right call on whatever happened with Andre Smith (knowing it would greatly affect tonight) versus let it go and get burned from the effects of probation that would kill recruiting for years to come. (if an ncaa investigation could have occurred and resulted in probation).

Saban showed that there will be discipline, you will follow rules, or you will sit at home and not play. Whether your a first round top 10 draft pick or not.

I thank him for that and keeping the strategic focus of Bama football in its proper place versus one game.

I give credit to the utes but I also know that what happened with Andre was a direct affect on why Utah spent a great deal of time in the backfield. Thanks for the memories JPW and you have my respect Utah.

I would be happy with Ole Miss's QB. Quite frankly after today, I am scared of them next year.

Delta we've allready got him.

STAR JACKSON. period. and while i like Greg....i'm hoping Star beats the pants off the other QB's this spring.
As for JP...with what he had to work with for protection....the man played a pretty d@mn good ball game. This is one game where i'm not upset with him at all. He played smart, and tucked it in and tried to make the play himself when i had too. If it hadn't been for JP it could have been a lot worse.

Javy had a good night. wish it was better but that was the highlight for me. watching Javy break one off one em! And Mark Ingram had a good game.
Well this season is over with time to go on the recruiting watch till A-Day. :-(

Delta, Johnson got his a$$ handed to him on more than one occasion tonight before getting hurt. Johnson was a killer tonight, but not for us. For them.

This all goes back to our OLine woes over the last several years. BAMA, over the last number of years, just has not been able to develope/mantain an offensive line of any significance over the long haul. I'm not sure if we have too many Mike Johnson's or too many players like him that are not developed?

Maybe the answer the lies somewhere in between? I'll tell you right now though, that I'm more than a little concerned about our offensive hopes for next year.

Hey Chop,

You know, I knew something was wrong when Smith came in and started his first game as a true freshman...then he regressed his second season! OL recruiting and development was the single most glaring weakness of the Shula regime (go ahead and blast me Shula apologists).

The problem Saban had when he got to Alabama was the lack of talent on campus along with some of the thugs that were on campus. He addressed the latter, and is addressing the former. The OL is the one area that takes the most time to shore up. You can recruit a great receiver or RB and he is able to go right away. You can recruit great QB's and in a year or two they are ready to go. OL take time to develop and the super-frosh type OL are RARE. Andre was one...Fluker will be another, but we hit JUCO for a lineman this year - that should tell you something.

With only 25 scholarships per class and only 85 available total, it takes time to fill a roster - and the OL takes the longest because of development time. I have full and total faith in what Saban is doing. Love could have played this season, but he was better utilized in the weight room and practice field. Next season he will be ready, along with a slew of others who are improving.

Our skill positions will be better next season as well. McElroy is at least as good as Wilson, and Star is better from a skillset standpoint. A.J. will redshirt but will be a good one.

I think we will get both RR and KK, along with Richardson at RB - all three will be capable of playing next year. We will improve offensively and our defense will be much improved as well.

The only thing that scares me is how good the SEC West could be. Nutt is doing a heck of a job, and Petrino is a good coach. The hat is a moron, but has a boatload of talent.

We could win the SEC next year, but by 2010, it is ours.

Hell yea, I hope we go out an get some LINEMEN on both sides of the ball we need them. We still out weight UTAH and still got our ass handed to us.

Good post. I couldn't agree more.

RTR,

I don't blame JPW at all, he did pretty much the best he could. We were just knocked back on our heels and the couple of mistakes he did make were to almost be expected. He was blindsided several times from lack of protection.

I wish him well in his future and enjoyed watching him do his thing this season. Roll Tide!
