K, so let me get this straight (I am a little messed up in the head, after all). In the interest of fairness, if one of my former soccer players gets off on a sexual assault charge because of shoddy police work and then gets busted for shoplifting crab legs, can my town honor him by naming a day after him and retiring his high school number?
Shame, Hueytown. Shame.

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama - Jameis Winston dreamed big back in his days of playing youth football in Bessemer and then high school football in Hueytown.
"It's every kid's dream to play college football and hopefully play in the pros one day," Winston said this afternoon at Children's of Alabama hospital. "I've been dreaming for a long time and my dream is still going on."
Before Winston is honored with his day in his hometown of Hueytown, the Heisman Trophy winner took some time to visit with youngsters at Children's.
Telling assembled media that he only had two minutes, the Florida State quarterback said it feels great just to be in Alabama, to get out of Tallahassee for a little bit and be around family.
The former Golden Gopher will be recognized at a reception at the Chamber of Commerce and then lauded at a ceremony at Gilmore-Vines Stadium, where he played his home high school football games. His jersey will be retired during that event.
"It's going to be an honor. It's going to be an honor," Winston said. "I'd just like to thank Hueytown for putting up with me for four years and great seasons and great years there."
Winston, who also plays on the Seminole baseball team, was issued a civil citation for leaving a Publix grocery store with $33 worth of crawfish and crab legs. He was also named but not charged in an alleged sexual assault investigation in Tallahassee.
The quarterback was asked if he is glad to have his off-the-field matters behind him.
"I'm not really worried about all that stuff because I knew I was good any way," he said. "I'm just happy to be home."
Shame, Hueytown. Shame.
