In closing...

When we have members falling into responses like "you're high" instead of continuing a conversation it points to a thread losing its course.

Tua and Jalen conversations will continue and I'll join in. But, it's my opinion this thread has lost its course...but we'll exercise patience and look for a better turn.

I personally just try to remember that we can always count on the musings of @BamaBoyJosh to fall back on in our time of test.

Yeah, I'll try to give you more musings in between breaks at my job. I know you dont have to worry about that though :-)

I was on my way back to the dug-out when...

This is just absolutely wrong. Absurdly wrong.

Then I was like:

Hey, I'm just going by what you've said in this thread. I've haven't read many threads this past year so I have no idea where you've been on this. In this thread though there has been some excuse making for Hurts, and some "not fair" talk when it comes to comparisons.

That fair enough; understandable as well.

I've no issues with anyone critiquing players as long as it's done fairly. And I still stand by that point--Jalen hasn't been the vast majority of the time in Jalen / Tua conversations.

I suspect that we've got a group of fans that want Tua to start and to support their wishes they've looked for areas to criticize Jalen while promoting their wish. Some of the critiques are spot on. Plays some have used in the course of these discussions? Not so much and in some cases not at all.

Well, no one can say Alabama doesn't have a very knowledgeable fan base about college football. I think it's synonymous with our historical success and the support this program has received over the decades by a very large and loud supportive group. Just like Kentucky has a very knowledgeable and supportive basketball fan base. There have been so many clear, distinctive points of difference that has already been made numerous times between Tua and Jalen that just presenting them again seems unnecessary and a waste of time.

The one thing that I don't take from these exchanges is that it's personal. No way, no how. Bama fans have very specific reasons they want the best guy for the job. At Alabama, winning national championships has been our mantra back to coach Bryant, for a lot of us. And that's what's coming through loud and clear in this thread.

Here's the thing with that.

How often do fans complain about what announcers and color commentators say during broadcasts? As often as the sun rises in the east is my first answer.

As I've stated before I don't listen to what they have to say during games. Occasionally, I'll catch something that leaves me shaking my head but more often than not it's in one ear and out the other (IF it makes it that far.)

My complaints have been fractionalized (new word) since Verne retired... Everyone sounds like a million bucks now!

He's the voice of a couple of generations. I always found his difficulties with names amusing. It certainly didn't get on my nerves.

It was more so the mix up in downs, distances, names, years... Just unprofessional. Wasn't fit for the job the last 3 years

Anybody beside me in Legion Field in 82 when the Tide defeat PSU and Blackledge? The PSU punter nailed is deep blocker in the butt and then a 21-21 game turned for the King. My wife and I were standing near the 50 when PSU came out for pregame workout and Joe had on those khaki pants with the small blue lions on them. Coach Bryant got a big laugh at him when they meet.

I was, terrible seats but well worth it. Two pretty good teams that day, I believe Bama got 2 TDs off of block punts that game. One as you mentioned very unusual. Kinda hard and embarrassing to block your own punt. Poor JoePa had 3 undefeated teams up to then but could never get voted the NC. After that loss, he was having to answer questions about a Bama Jinx. He didn't like it and neither coach Bryant. Anyway, as we know, it was their only loss and JoePa won his first NC vs Georgia.

Same can be said for Eli Gold and that's much worse considering you don't have a picture to reference.

Okay, I can't stand for slandering of Eli now!
I know. I know. It's not fair to compare Eli and Verne--two different skill sets.

Probably my most favorite Eli-ism is "shankapottamus".

Scott was such a lethal punter that the rare shank was such a thing of ugly perfection. If he ever DID shank one, he shanked it, but GOOD.

Hearing Eli call those instances "shankapottamus" was priceless.
