🏈 Jake Coker - Starting QB

All we've heard from the "insider reports" is how awful Coker is. How his motion is slow, his passes inaccurate, etc

Okay, but obviously Saban doesn't see it that way. Saban wanted Coker last year, and it looks like he wants him again this year.
All I've seen is: Coker was the most solid QB at ADay. In all of his gametime last year he looked as good or better than Sims at times, and made plays. He has an NFL arm. He's going to be drafted if he starts - probably in the 2nd or 3rd round.

I just don't buy into these reports that say how awful he is, when all I've seen is a solid QB who makes plays, and has NFL potential. Apparently Saban agrees, and I think it's obvious that Coker will take the first snap. I think turnovers could be an issue, in which case we'd bring in Bateman.
I think both QBs are great, and I'm behind both 100% at this point. I just hope people can stop hating on Coker who's done nothing but try his hardest and be a great teammate with a humble attitude

ROLL TIDE

First half of A-day he look great. Second half not so great. Saban sees every practice so if he picks Coker I'm 100% behind him. Don't understand
all the bad talk about Coker, hes part of our team. We need to support him.

I see your point and somewhat agree. However, even at A Day, you could see how slow he processes things. I believe he even threw a pick 6.

Kiffin is pretty good at what he does, so I'm sure he will play to his strengths. The run game will be his best friend.

Nick Saban football comes down to OL and Defensive play. If those 2 units can dominate, the QB will be minimized. RTR

Coker isn't awful. He has tons of talent. So far, he's been slow in decision making and delivery. He stares down the receiver. All of these things are fixable. All we've seen is limited play last year and A Day. If he gets the start, he will be better and Kiffin will play to his strengths. If he struggles, Morris or Bateman will step in.

he was awful. he didnt play well in scrimmages. The light came on few days ago and he finally had best week of practice... what's the problem?
My problem is the light didn't "just come on." He's been good in every televised snap I've seen. He's 1a on our depth chart. He has an NFL arm.
Maybe he's had a bad day or two, but Coker is far from a bad QB. He has a lot of ability, and I like our chances down the stretch if he ends up as the guy

Slow progressions, poorly timed throws. That's his problems in camp, but apparently some improvement was made this week. We've got to put all of our eggs in one basket, and he's the likely candidate. Maybe it's a short leash, but he needs a chance to prove himself. At least to gain some game confidence, then his ability will shine through. Hopefully.

I just don't understand how you feel Coker looked better than Blake last year.
Notice I said "at times." In his very limited action he made some really nice deep throws, a nice fade to Cooper in the endzone, and made some throws that Sims simply doesn't have the physical ability to make. Please don't make an ass of yourself - there's a reason that literally NO ONE was interested in Sims at the NFL level. Coker is a more physically gifted passer, plain and simple, and was last year.
I'm not hating on Sims. He had some unique abilities, and won the starting job fair & square, but he was probably one of the worst passing QBs we've had in a while, and could be completely ineffective and terrible at times

This dude is a FIFTH year Senior and we are still trying to "fix" things. Unacceptable. Coker has the football IQ of a salad bar. Face it..this guy is struggling to be a fraction as good as Blake Barnett.. a true freshman. I`ll be the first to admit that I love to second guess Saban. Thats what boards like this exist for. Saban is a multi-millionaire. Im not. I still dont get his support for this guy, though.

I guess the problem is you said this
In all of his gametime last year he looked as good or better than Sims at times.

The sentence is contradictory, you either meant
In all of his gametime last year he looked as good or better than Sims.
or
last year he looked as good or better than Sims at times.
Can't have it both ways, all of his throws couldn't have looked better but only at times.

The problem I see with your argument about Coker is that basically the only thing you hang your hat on is arm strength. I agree he absolutely has an NFL arm. However, the QB position is about more than arm strength. Can we win with Coker? Absolutely. Will he put up huge stats doing so? Less likely.

Horseshit

He set passing records. Sure he had Cooper and Kiffin but he performed on the field

Did he make mistakes? Sure but he didn't have an Ingram to bail him out re: GMac 09 USC game

To say Blake Sims was the worst passing QB Bama has had in some time destroys your credibility to judge Coker or anyone's opinion of him.

That about sums it up and even the recently released article about Jake says looking the part isn't everything.

I've watched Coker many snaps now and he never throws it on time. Never. The receiver has to adjust or the play could have been something else ie a touchdown.

I support him 100% but I want the OP and everyone else to understand he has serious QB issues that hopefully he has fixed since last Saturdays scrimmage. Rewatch the Aday game, and get back to me. Specifically watch his first throw to foster.

OP is a troll - always has been.

Maybe J.C. will fix his slow release, happy feet, accuracy, and inability to process information this week. I sure hope so; he throws far.
