🏈 I've underestimated Kiffin...

and respect the other teams.
An idle thought here...

"and respect other teams." Two ways that happens. One, respect based on what they are doing on the field. Or two, respect for how the Athletic Department's handle themselves off the field.

UT, AU ... respect for what they've done on the field. Suggestions? Or, off the field. Suggestions?

I'm not one that's a fan of trolling. That still leaves me with the question of "what am I supposed to respect about either football program right now?" I'm left without an answer.

He just does not seem to be able to completely get rid of his immature ways. Seems to always be lurking under the surface. I expect Saban to step in and shut this down. Just go do your job, prepare your team and respect the other teams.

So coaches can't have a little fun? I'm sure these guys work waaaay more hours a week than any of us, so who cares if he wants to blow off a little steam with a comment. By your description you want these guys stiff as a board with no personality. And spare me on anything related to calling it bulletin board material. I don't want a coach that talks trash that can't back it up,but I damn sure don't want a coach that doesn't have an edge to him. I'm also willing to bet Kiffin respects every team enough tof prepare the same. Some folks just need to lighten up a hair.

Remember that he's living in Saban's world with Saban rules.

It's undoubtedly gotten under Alex Scarborough's skin. Is that a bad thing? The boy is still bitching about 2004.

Those numbers Kiffin cited? One was the final score of last year's Iron Bowl -- 29-13 -- and the other was a reference to the 2004 BCS National Championship in which Auburn was left out of despite going undefeated and USC, where Kiffin was an assistant coach at the time, beat Oklahoma, 55-19.
We can all dream, right? Will there ever be a day where they admit the other two teams were undefeated as well? Saying "left out despite..." is as hollow today as it was a decade ago.

I was taught to go prepare hard and go compete hard with the other team and when you are done go shake there hand. To me that was showing them respect as athletes and competitors. Trust me I dislike the UT/AU bunch as much as anyone. However go take care of it on the field.

Not trying to be disagreeable, I just do not think this is what a coach or player should be doing.

Seems like the fun and satisfaction for hard work is the winning.

One last thought, do you believe Saban is ok with this? If not why do you think that is?

@mando I completely understand what you were taught. It fits with how I look at fans, or players, or coaches ... how I envision them 'acting.' I'm of the opinion you speak little when you lose, less when you win.

I don't see this as being just some "spur of the moment troll" by Kiff. I find the timing a little ironic. It happened a day, day and a half after one of the more notable members over on another site made the comment "Kiff hasn't been recruiting." (Now, I took his comment as he handn't landed anyone of note, yet. Not that he wasn't recruiting at all.) So, we see Kiff taking pics and sending them out when he's on the recruiting trail.

That leads me to the thought that if there's a prominent Bama fan posting that on another site, the chances are very high that staff's at other schools have taken those comments and repeated them. (Before anyone assumes coaching staff's don't follow message forums, stop. They do. Everywhere.) So, was that a return volley on something being put out on the recruiting trail? I don't know.

The ol' logic test ...

Something started this. What? I don't know. I really don't care because even with my personal feelings I don't see this as a big deal. In terms of "trolling," it's pretty benign.

Understandable, but that doesn't mean he has to be a stick in the mud. I don't think there was anything egregious about those posts. Yeah, trolling our rivals, but nothing worse than they've done to themselves lately.

I happen to have been brought up just like you. Good sportsmanship and let your winning doing the talking. I was also raised to compete hard and hate the man across from you when you're between the lines. All of that being said, I do not have an issue with a subtle jab at a rival. The Alabama-Auburn/Tennessee rivalry is only as good as it is due to the hatred, wisecracks, and ass whooping thrown at each other. If no one says anything, you have a Minnesota-Northwestern type game where no one cares and it means nothing. I only think Coach Saban would disagree with it due to the media attention and questions he has to field in regards to it. Other than that I feel he believes he has bigger fish to fry and to focus like only he does/can.
