🧑‍🍳 I've never thought about okra for a breakfast much less BBQ...but, I did, and I did.

We decided to run up the street this week to grab some breakfast at Page's Okra Grill. This caught my eye and I'll be damned if it wasn't a pretty freakin' good dish.

It's their own BBQ along with their own (somewhat famous I'm told) Pimento Cheese. Top notch, in my book.

Here's thier official description:

Read about that place last week in an article... got caught up in that non-local shrimp investigation. That name stuck out.
I found that to be HILARIOUS! @Krimson I may have mentioned this to you; don't recall.

Brandon, the places (most of them) are infamous tourist traps. You know the type of places I'm talking about based on what you've shared here. I despise places like that. The ONLY exception to this is Pearlz ... but I'm not ordering shrimp from a oyster restaurant. I was a little disppointed to hear "Hymans" was one of the places. I've been in there couple of times...one of the oldest places to eat in downtown Charleston. BUT, tourist traps...don't go there.

Page's is good eating. But, it's not a place I'm grabbing seafood of any sort. (Although, their grilled Mahi with corn risotto is a good one.) They have a hot chicken sandwich (honey backed with the spices) that will make you slap someone! Hell, at $20 ... it better be.

How is the okra in the cheese prepared? Never seen that before.
This is a little harder to explain than I thought it would be.

Have you ever had a Crostini with Pimento and Okra (bacon flavoring?) The taste is a lot like that. The texture? It's not as liquid as sour cream but not as thick as a cream cheese spread. They added the okra just like anyone would mix in shredded cheese.

I like subtle hints of flavor in dishes of any sort, right? I mentioned they make their own BBQ; smoked with Hickory. They also added bacon to the spread and it was a hickory smoked bacon. It wasn't strong enough to give it a "woody" flavor but you could taste it in the background.

I'm sure it goes on pretty much everywhere coastal seafood restaurants exist, at least to some degree. In a similar type deal, one of my favorite places, Mary Mahoney's in Biloxi, got popped recently for something a bit more serious... serving imported fish under false labels. That was a ballsy move, but somehow they got away with it for a bit... props to the chef I suppose. I don't remember the details, but it was shaping up to be a costly mistake decision in more ways than one. I never ordered their fish though, they have a couple of other dishes I always order. I enjoy a good fish dish at some places, but they are like ordering an 6 oz steak. Tastes great, less filling...

What, two weeks ago? I read about that somewhere; 1.35 million fine I want to say. In the back of my head I also knew it was going on but had never really thought about the whole thing.

What shocked me? I wouldn't have expected it to be a Felony.

Ya still can't beat from the boat to the car...a friend told me a place called Abundant Seafood has Black Sea Bass on sell this weekend for $8.00. I'll be making a trip tomorrow.
