I've watched a little, read a bit more, about Mamdani's nomination. I'm left wondering ...

For more than a couple of centuries people have looked at NYC as a beacon: one of the greater cities in the world. It's been a city that filled people's fascinations. I'm now thinking the same amount of attention may be on NYC in the next few years: driven by morbid curiosity rather than attractions.

Truth? - Not only are we the first civilization to pay to be colonized and destroyed, we are also the first to criminalize its defenders and shower with honors and perks those who are committed to its destruction.

Social experiments in smaller cities - like San Francisco or Detroit - can be corrected over time, almost without regard for the degree of damage. The impacts of price controls and "free" services in a city like New York can can linger for decades, particularly if it's coupled with weak enforcement and/or prosecution.
