We didn't play that well yesterday against Florida.

Let's take a step back in history...shall we?

The Seventies won't be repeated. - LSU fans

Les is a good Coach - LSU fans

Saban is leaving - (fill in the blank) fans

Ladies and some of you gentleman. (emphasis on some)

We very well may be that good.

That good.

Now, to go back to the past...our recollection version, if you will...

Coach Saban made a comment three years ago that I've mention to a few people here. Audio, Bran, Kirk, Keith, Joe...and that's just naming a few.

He said, and this is as close to quote as I can muster this morning (on a 36 hour work run and it's now mixed with beer and Grandma) "We will build a program that teams like USC, Texas, etc., hope to emulate." (did I misspell that?)

Tell me a team, any team, in the country that is where we are. Please, I beg you.

You won't like this statement...btw...we'd be in the same situation with RichRod.

FWIW, this weekend is the game to watch. Then, it becomes Auburn...which is how it should be.

Alabama Hands Florida Comprehensive Defeat, Reaffirms Place As Nation's Best Team

Oct 02 11:29p by Andy Hutchins
This is the Alabama everyone feared Nick Saban would build.

Whine about oversigning if you want. Complain about how bloodless Saban can seem if it makes you feel better. But don't dispute this: Alabama is the best team in college football right now, and a team that can turn a squad full of fleet five-star recruits into mincemeat despite all but forgetting about the accelerator in the second half.

Alabama ran for 170 yards, which is more or less an average night, passed for just 73, and gained just 54 yards in the second half, 37 of them on the game's final drive. Its greatest weakness is still its secondary, which allowed John Brantley to probe for and find open men in the second half as Florida racked up 222 yards after halftime. Greg McElroy apparently compared himself to Trent Dilfer in a conversation with Verne Lundquist and Gary Danielson. And none of that stopped 'Bama from crushing a top-25 team by 25 points.
Truth is, Florida could have made this very close. Two turnovers at Alabama's 1 kept the score low, as did a couple of calls on goal line runs that seemed like 50-50 plays. The Gators had to settle in the red zone, but moved the ball as well as they have with Brantley at quarterback, and can take heart that even on a bad day on the road, their offense and defense looked good for stretches against the nation's very best team.

Perhaps, should Florida continue improving and maturing, these two teams will meet in Atlanta for the SEC Championship to write a third chapter in that saga. Perhaps, should talent and potential evolve into potency and excellence, Florida will round into the sort of team that can give Alabama a scare. Perhaps, should the turnover margin not be +4 in Alabama's favor, a rematch would be a much closer affair.

But don't count on it.

Alabama has a defense that will age and grow, too, and a rushing attack that will only get stronger as Mark Ingram's knee surgery becomes a more distant memory. And under Saban, Alabama seems intent on improving every week.

The Crimson Tide is an odd moniker for this squad, one that just keeps rolling in, no ebb in sight.

I'm reminded of how many other fans dogged Bama during our down period. How many said things like 'You Bama fans are delusional; no way any team ever dominates the way Bama did way back when; Bear Bryant is dead; blah, blah, blah'.

Well folks, here we are. What critics of Alabama didn't (or refused to) understand is how a combination of a great coach, unmatched tradition and a supportive, football-crazy fan base CAN and IS dominating the college football world. It's a rare combination of factors that would only work for very few programs.

I feel so very fortunate that I have lived to see us dominate like this once again. I'm also very happy that some of our fans who don't remember the Bryant era are getting a taste of what it's like. It's a great time to be a Bama fan.

I told a fellow Bama fan at work that , "Nick Saban has allowed Coach Bryant to rest in peace." He looked at me like I was nuts. I explained that we the fans are no longer "digging him up" every other game. Saban is in fact a better coach and has allowed the fan base to move on.

I agree with the 'Saban has allowed Coach Bryant to rest in peace' statement.

However, it is far too early to say that Saban is a better coach than Bryant. Bryant didn't have near the talent that Saban has and was able to dominate college football for two decades. I'd love it if Saban did bring us more championships than Bryant's six, et al. So far, Saban has brought us one NC. It's apples and oranges at this point. Let's not get ahead of ourselves.

As impressive as Bama has looked at times, the team still has concerns that need addressing or else it could find itself with a loss by season's end.

The Crimson Tide are only 5-0 . . . and there is still a lot of football to be played before anyone hoists up a crystal football. I sure hope the Bama team doesn't start believing everything that's being written by the media after yesterday's victory against Florida. This may just become one of Coach Saban's biggest challenge--keeping the team from falling into the "we-are-so-great-we-only-need-to-show-up" mindset.

You've got to be kidding, right? I think the quote his something like "Bear could take yours an' beat his." I haven't heard that about CNS (yet).

Totally agree with ya.

No crimson tea for me until the fat lady sings!

When I think back on Saban's arrival, many of us said we would be in the hunt for the NC by his 4th season, knowing that by then the pantry would be filled with top caliber athletes. To our delight, we found ourselves in the hunt in his second season and grabbing the big trophy in his third one.

This shows there is much more to the man than recruiting. He took players recruited by another coach, some well thought of, many considered average, some who had under achieved under the previous regime, and showed them what it took to win. He convinced them that if they did what he told them to do they'd get theri chance, and got them to buy in. Here's to coach taking players like Rashad Johnson, Erik Anders, Cory Reamer (and many more) and convincing them they could be better than they thought they could be, if they just paid the price. That is a feat worthy of Coach Bryant. Now just add in a few more crystal footballs and then we'll have a subject for debate.

So I should cancel those reservations to Glendale? JK.

I hope the team doesn't read all I'm reading. Most of the media has proclaimed Alabama to be the king of college football....right before we get on an airplane to fly to Columbia to face a strong SC team. Without being too negative I'm wondering how much pressure (not sure if that is the best word) gets put on the offense due to the lack of production in 2nd half. I'm really not that worried because Saban referenced "shutting it down" too early. Just hope our offense gets on a roll early and puts that 2nd half funk to bed.

I dont think anyone should ever compare a current coach to coach Bryant. And I hate those prints that come out with every Bama HC on them with Bryant. I remember one iwth Bryant/Franchione, Bryant/Shula, and now one with Bryant/Saban. Its crazy and its just for $$$$.

Okay back to the topic at hand. My sister-in-law (UF grad) called me after the game and was like okay let me have it. She said I never talk and I dont put it in her face ('99,'05, '09). I told her that's cause I remember the bad years. I dont get too high on that horse and if I do I look back at that 2000 season or heck even the '06 season. Ive been watching Bama games since my dad took me to my first one in '78. I appreciate the history and I have also learned from it. It was oh so nice to stand on those steps in the Rose Bowl and watch the confetti fly in January. I also remember standing on some steps in Nashville and watching Minnesota celebrate not too long ago. I kind of balance out like that.

Ditto.......lotta ball yet to be played.

Bit of a story on the weekend...

Got two brothers, both UF fans, who frequent one of my businesses. Friday they were in the place in the AM having a few "adult beverages." Of course, they did want to talk a little smack but out of respect (IE: they were paying customers) I didn't say a thing back "smack related." I just pointed out a few of the comments I had made on the forum here leading up to the game.

Yesterday morning, doing the weekly reports, etc., one showed up at 11 and promptly said, "you were right." He ended up buying a round for the bar. A few hours later both brothers showed up and repeated the same...

Good fella's...yes, they can be found in other fan bases.

Let's remember...I live in Charleston. The "chit" talk and finger pointing started yesterday from the USCe fans. I'm remaining quiet here (physically) but on this site?

IF...let me repeat...IF...

We are on for a bit over two quarters this game will resemble 2005 by the third quarter.

I'm worried.......................

I'm worried that I'm not worried about Garcia. Something is bad wrong.
