...not a battle.

What I'm hearing from Saban, and you can listen/watch the press conference on the blog, is exactly what he said about JPW last year.

Except, it isn't about "managing" the offense like JP was described last season. From what I've been told, he's becoming that guy who can "make some plays." Hey, JP could, but it wasn't one of those things we expected.

I wonder if it's more of Greg's knowledge being around the system longer or his actual ability or a combination of both.

Hey, I want the best guy out there. Greg certainly isn't the sexy pick for many fans though. Until many watch him in action they won't be convinced he is a legitimate QB. Again, this is one of those "trust Saban" situations though.

I've said all along that this would be Greg's job to lose. I watched practice last Friday at the clinic and he didn't try to force the ball in drills and pass skeleton like the other two. In time though, Star and Thomas will come around.

Combination.

I know this will come up at your house Sandra, and you'll hear "Bama will struggle with a new QB." (wait, I thought we couldn't win last year with JP...never mind, I digress)

Just smile, and say, "OK."

At the risk of being flamed to death (LOL) I'm gonna toss this out here. Star is in real danger of being overtaken on two fronts.......he's gonna have to step it up to keep Darrah from taking the #2 spot, & he's REALLY gonna have to watch the rear-view mirror when McCarron gets here. JMO, but he looks a little listless in the practice vids I've seen. I know it's a long shot, but IMO Star is facing the possibility of never seeing the field as a starter at Bama. He needs to kick it into gear.....quick! JOMO.

OBTW, I sincerely hope he proves me wrong. RTR!

I really have no idea how you could get that from no more than 3 minutes of total video to look at.

There's a lot more than 3 vid's out there right now on the QB's from this spring.

That said, I suspect he's making that judgment with last years A-day game in mind as well - don't agree with his thoughts so that's but we are all entitled to them. ;)

I think Jackson is in no danger of getting replaced as backup. AJ has said himself that he hopes to be redshirted and Saban has said it's probable that he'll be redshirted, so I don't see AJ beating out Jackson.

So far I've learned this from Saban....yes the best QB is going to start, but expierence goes along way as with any coach, so if the QB with the most expierence does a good job at managing the game he'll start.

Cory

I agree that Greg has distanced himself from the competition. And if Star gets a handle on the offense, he will be in good shape to take over after McElroy. Experience goes a long way with coach Saban as mentioned before, and being able to make good decisions quickly is the key.
