🏈 It's been years since I've found myself a little obsessed with a decision by a referee. Here it Friday and I'm still thinking back to Saturday's game

You guys know this. If there's anything that grates on my nerves it's fans blaming losses on officiating. I really don't care for people harping on refs at all even seeing the mistakes that lead to the criticisms.

But here I am still thinking about Saturday...and where that freakin' spot.

Everyone was focused on Tua's slide. Everyone was worried about his knee. Very little was said about the spot or whether Tua just slid early. I'll buy either one, honestly.

But if it was the spot...
If they'd converted that 3rd down...

We'd be sitting here thinking about Bama streak of three games without having to punt.

In '90 Houston set the record for fewest punts in a season at 34. I can't find a record for which team in college has punted the fewest times in a season. I don't know if these records even exist.

I thought the spot was bad in real time, but on replay they appeared to mark it when his feet began to come forward for the slide. That is the correct way to mark it, but I've seen some horrible spots in other games this year where they gave the QB an extra yard or more, marking it where he was down as if tackled.

I didn't agree with the spot either!! I was pissed to be honest. Pissed when review upheld the call too. Like Tim said, I have seen guys run out of bounds and get the benefit of a great spot, others get marked correctly by where the ball went out and which arm it may have been in. I don't agree with the slide rule though. I think it should be when the runners knee or elbow makes contact with the ground, that is where you look to spot the ball, not where he begins his slide.

The proper mark of the spot is where Tua gave himself up, not where he lands. If it was where he landed (where the knee went down), it was a bad spot. But, the rule is where he gave himself up. QBs just needs to be educated on this for the future.

How did he get hurt on that?
I don't know. The wrap was something that was pointed out to me. I hadn't noticed it. No one could miss the brace.

I just watched it again. Nothing happens at all on the 4th down but watch third down again. @32:08

On Tua's scramble, we have two possibilities. Tua steps funny on the yard marker and it looks like it might have wrenched his knee and then he falls and lands pretty hard on that knee on the sideline.
