🏈 'Is this what we want football to be?' Nick Saban opines about no-huddle offenses

i personally don't enjoy watching games with no-huddle offenses resulting in basketball scores. just not my cup of tea. then again, i don't enjoy watching basketball.

however, Saban ought to be keep his opinions to himself on this issue. it comes across as resentful of the innovation that other programs have developed in order to compete with the programs that can recruit hogs in the trenches. it's the result of competition. when Saban talks about the increased risk of injuries in this style of offense, i can't help but think how his preferred physical style is probably just as injurious to players, if not more so.

That WV/Baylor game was the worst display of pass coverage, pass rush, and tackling I have ever seen. ESPN bobbleheads were just gushing over it and I was like "this here sucks". Might as well have been a 7 on 7 game or flag football.

Bring on Bama vs Oregon/WV for the BCSCG. Tide will roll because football is still a game of blocking and tackling.

This. :word:

To be honest, I don't understand the issue here or why he is venting this out publicly.

Don't like the speed of the offense? STOP THEM.

Teams tend to run no huddle most when they can sustain a drive. The easier it is for them to obtain, the faster the tempo becomes. It's no secret but it can be stopped just like very other offense out there. Notice what happens to no huddle offenses when they get behind the chains? They huddle just like a normal or 'slow' offense does (whatever that means). A team can't run a no huddle if it isn't able to sustain drives.

I may be in the minority here but that article came off as Saban moaning over teams that can catch his defenses on their heals. He sounds bitter despite the W and it really doesn't come off to me like he is actually talking about player safety. I mean yes he has a point and I'm sure he gets concerned but at the same time you get 3 timeouts per half and the defense has to do their part if they want to extinguish a fired up team that runs no huddle.

flame suit on lol

I too think Saban was merely thinking out loud. He seems to ahead of the game and being out front when thinking of rules and innovations. Too me, if they allow one side to make calls, then the other should have the opportunity as well. It's like quick pitching someone in baseball. Something is done to sort of even the playing field. They allow the defense to substitute when the offense does why not allow time to get a call in to the D?
