🧑‍🤝‍🧑 / 🏡 Is this a left brain / right brain thing? I see this puzzle with two ways to solve...

I just looked at it and quickly saw that the solution came from adding a factor to the true product. 3x3=9 + 3 = 12, 4x4 = 16 + 4 = 20, and so forth.
I did it that way: the second time.

I saw 3X3 = 12 and thought, "change the last three to four" and I have 12. Change the four to five, I've got 20. I was done.

THEN it hit me that 4X4+4 brought the same result.

I can't call the first solution math, can I? Changing the numbers to make it work...worked, but it's not what your maths instructors are going to teach.
