I heard on JOX this morning that the reporter was possibly taken out for lunch by a UT coach (Lance Thompson) where he was enlightened on the NCAA "bump rule". The guy basically convicted Coach Saban of breaking a rule that was just put in. I guess this is Thompson's way of getting back at Saban for taking "his" recruit.

All I can say is we have been accused of much worse in Memphis and by the Memphis CA too. If I was a betting man, I would bet nothing came of this based on the high school coach's remarks.

It is funny to me that all the accusations of "cheating" in the SEC seems to be coming from K-ville (again, no surprise). With that staff assembled on "the Hill", I'd be surprised if they are not the one's with NCAA issues on the horizon.

Arguably the most infamous poster within the Vol nation and certainly the most infamous disassociated booster. Anyway, I was on another site and saw mention of him being on Finebaum so I get on my iTunes and go back to Friday to catch Roy's nuggets of wisdom.

The guy is a scumbag, which we all know. The interview did little to change my opinion on that, but the one thing that surprised me was his attempts to distance himself from Kiffin. He says that the younger fans are eating it up but that the older ones like himself don't care for his antics. So on, and so forth.

that guy is a loser....just like fininblahhm...the guy is a BAMA lover...it would be like giving me a radio show, i would try to bash other teams too.
But this thread is not about us viles, its just nice to not be involved in somethin for once....although im sure lane will get us some more bad publicity.

Orangeaddict, I mentioned Thompson's name not from the article but from the radio this morning. They were speaking with Finebaum and asked him "if" their might be some sour grapes on the Vols part since Lance Thompson was supposed to own Memphis and put up a fence around the area. Finebaum said that it wouldn't surprise him if Thompson had taken the writer out to lunch or for a beer and told him about the "bump rule" and that Saban probably violated it since Saban was the one to first use video conferencing and such.

Bro, I am not sure what Lane is doing or if there is a method to his madness. One thing is for sure, he has UT being talked about. Once football season starts, in a couple of years UT will know if it is a good hire or not. I personally think the UT coaching staff needs to worry more about what they are doing for UT than every other SEC team. Bad publicity for Bama in Memphis is common, it is a hotbed for all SEC teams to pick and grab from. Ole Miss, Arkansas, and Mississippi State, cherry pick a lot here. UT should do well if they play their cards right. So far their cards are to blame violations on other teams, when they themselves are committing some. Strange.

When I opened this thread this morning I chose not to reply to it considering my reaction. Summed up, and as concisely as I can put it, "abject fail."

However, now I'm left with something to say. You may choose to scroll past this post. In fact, that very well may be the wisest action you could take.

Yeah, it is about the Vols. You've made it such.

Ironically, this thread and what you were insinuating by starting it is as close to what is happening at UT than any other example I can think of.

Here we have a journalist, term used lightly, who is paid to cover the Volunteer program. He has said some things that were false. He said some things that were not only false, but if he had taken a moment to even look into the situation he would have realized what he was about to write was careless, in a word.

Careless. Lacking substance and truth. A written tirade whose end result leaves him looking like a hack. A fool. In a job where he doesn't belong because he willfully ignore the basic principles of his job.

Change written to spoken and you have a description of the coaching staff at UT right now.

Now, the assertion that Finebaum and Adams are even in the same realm of individuals, are men possessed of the same character, goes to show me that you are reading far too much UT material without considering whether or not what is being said is in fact true.

"Bama lover" in Finebaum? Paul, if anything, wants to see his alma mater succeed. Because his show is based in the state of Alabama, because he respects Coach Saban, those who look for ways to complain about his opinions choose to label him a "Bama lover." Not only is it unfounded, false, name your adjective...it's eerily similar to the cries heard from the Plainsmen that the entire state media is against them and doing all within their power to damage their program.

Asinine. No other word describes that mentality better. (although delusional is a close second.)

The mere fact that you brought this here is a feeble attempt to deflect the much deserved attention that has fallen on your program.

Once again, you have made it about the Volunteer program.

The mere fact that this is coming from a paper in the state of Tennessee is going to put the spotlight back on Tennessee; albeit, in this situation perhaps not so deservedly.

HOWEVER, considering the boastful claims of your coaching staff about "our recruits," and how Saban isn't getting them...by default, that attention is back on UT once again.

Have you seen the comments made by the Coach and how he specifically addressed that write up and the fallacies it contained?

Hey, I'm curious about one other thing as well.

What is going to be the reaction when there are even more kids coming out of the school system in Memphis and headed to Bama? You are going to get to relive it. One time is a given in the next few months. A very, very good chance on another...and possibly a fourth as well.

Circle your wagons my friend. The school you have pledged your allegiance to has now crossed the line of just immaturity and are starting to enter the realm of attacks.

If inept journalism is your conversation of choice, I'm game.

Think on this for a minute...

UT has a tradition, a history that goes back for close to a century on a national scale.

It's enough of a tradition that is can stand on its own. It's enough of a tradition that if "attention" is what the program needs at this moment, there's plenty of reasons (factual reasons) that any staff could point to and recruit kids to play for UT in the school's name alone.

Kiffin doesn't care about that. He probably hasn't stopped long enough to look around and see what he can use to his advantage.

Instead, we see things like the article you mentioned. We see things like the statements he's made. I know of things like the lies being told by the UT staff on the recruiting trail.

The thing you have to ask is, "why did they choose this road to travel?"

Hey, don't get me wrong. UT is a bigger rival to me than Auburn.

But, that set aside, all I see Kiffin doing is pissing on the things you have as a University to be proud of.

Then again, it's not my school. I'm pretty damn comfortable saying if this crap was pulled here he'd be gone.

Then, we add these two hacks into the equation?

I'd just suggest don't join those taking solace in what they are trying to perpetuate.

It's one thing to have a coach looked at and considered a running joke. It's quite another when you have "journalist" jumping into the fray when their effort only serve to drag the UT program further into the what's already become a gutter and quickly moving into the sewage category.

Understand, not only am I very familiar with the show, the producer and their goal I've also been reading what Finebaum has had to say for close to a quarter of a century. My statement isn't arbitrary.
