A caller on the Bill King show this morning was critical of CNSs call for the the stadium to remain full for the entire game. Coaches request was obviously very successful. The caller mentioned that Saban has or had the opportunity to discuss the segregation of the Greek system which has had a lot of attention. Of which are the block seat sections have come into question. I know this is more of a political or social problem and the coaches job does not entail theses type of things but the guys point is well taken. If he can keep butts in seats with one statement, he can make some huge changes on other important issues involving the university. Just a talking point...curious of others opinions.

The way he handled seem to have worked at least short term. The way I see it is we owe it to the players and coaches to stay the 60 min. This isn't the first time CNS has had to say something about it but I bet it will be his last....at least for a good while.

That was a statement made after the requirement was posted in their handbook, after they signed an agreement they'd stay.

Because Saban made public mention of it...it's now made headlines that "Saban demanded..."

As to the comment about segregating the Greek system? I understand the context of his opinion but do we really want independent organizations being forced to chose certain members based on race and skin color? It's a "private club," for lack of a better expression.

Your right when it comes to the block seating for the Greeks stuff.

I think it goes more like this, they owe it to us the fans to put a competitive product on the field and we owe it to them to support them, it goes hand in hand. All I ever want out of our team is to play 60 minutes and to the best of their ability. As far as the Greek stuff, they don't get the fact that there are people out there willing to pay top dollar for those seats and they need to get their arses in them and stay. Its more of a privilege to them. They do OWE it to the team.

True, but let's set that aside and consider this...

How long do our frosh and soph's wait, on average, to get tickets to the football games? There are students in school now that would quickly fill those seats.

Although my vision was partially obscured by the cigar smoke wafting into the upper deck, it would've been nice if the players had headed to the student section to an acknowledgment of their hanging around. Did anyone notice it that occurred?

RTR,

Tim

I had to leave and missed the last five minutes on tv. Eli said that after the coaches' handshake that CNS and the players went down to the ten-yard line and applauded the students.

Fine by me, nothing wrong with that in my eyes, it was more of a " get your asses in the seats and stay or lose the privilege". I am all for students that want to attend and stay. Good point.
