🧑‍🤝‍🧑 / 🏡 Insurance...checking prices

How often do you check insurance prices? I'm talking about for both vehicles and homes. I check mine every 6 months. So far, Progressive has been the cheapest for me (using the same coverage amounts for all carriers) for several years.

I told my mom she needs to check with her agent to see if she can get anything cheaper than what she has. She's been with Nationwide since the late 60s. She's only ever had 1 claim on her house when the washer hose burst in the middle of the night and ruined the carpet in the den. And she got a lot of flack from Nationwide because the carpet she had wasn't cheap.

She's been paying close to $180/month just for car insurance for quite a while. I pay a little over, but I'm younger, a male, and I drive a full size truck that has a higher value than her car. So I told her to call her agent and have them send her some info on other companies. So she called and they sent her a few choices.

She can switch to Progressive and her payment would go from almost /$180/month WAY down to just over $50/month. She'd be saving right at $130/month. Plus, the amounts on the coverage would double.

Her car is a 2011 Nissan Altima with just over 25k miles. She bought it brand new in 2011 and rarely drives it. She drove it more back when she bought it. But now, she hardly ever drives it. It actually hasn't been on the road in about 6 months.

I had progressive for years. They dropped me after I was rear ended at a red light.
The reason they dropped me was the person that rear ended me also had progressive!!!

Yeah makes no sense to me either!!!

I was unconscious with memory loss, maxed out my medical $250,000 in 2 days. The person that hit me only had $15,000 max, divided by all the injuries and damage in the wreck.

They considered that multiple claims, and I was sitting at a red light, at no fault, the lady that hit me was sighted and faulted by investigators with the state and insurance company. They’re crooks……

Luckily I had and still have good health insurance and worked with AT&T at the time. So I lost no wages during my recovery, and my health insurance picked up the rest of the medical tab.

I had a jeep regular value was close to $30,000, I had over $50,000 in upgrades (lift, wheels, tires, suspension, seats, grab bars, bumpers, tire carriers and tons of other add ons. They gave me $20,000 total for that and about $2000 for additional “stuff”.

This was about 8 years ago. Still a little pissed about it, I loved that jeep!!!!

According to FHP the lift and steel bumpers saved my life….

We were letting our daughter drive wife car. She was broadside at an intersection. The guy that hit her got out of the car didn't go see if our daughter was OK. He went straight to the store started drinking. By the time the police got to them he had already done a six pack. His dad own the car, and his son took off out of the state. We had the same guy doing the claims. The claim guy told me nothing he could do, but told me to turn the car rental. I knew that him the the other own was giving me the shaft.
Glad you are good, I know our daughter still has problem, it been over 25 years when it happen.

I have Progressive vehicle insurance. I had an at-fault accident late last year. I got the payment to get my truck fixed (sent direct deposit to me since I own the truck, outright) in less than 2 weeks after I sent back the photos they requested. I never talked to a person, did everything through the app. I figured my insurance would go up, and was willing to accept that since it was totally my fault. But it didn't. In fact, I got an email yesterday telling me it was going down. And nothing else changed on the policy.
