How often do you check insurance prices? I'm talking about for both vehicles and homes. I check mine every 6 months. So far, Progressive has been the cheapest for me (using the same coverage amounts for all carriers) for several years.
I told my mom she needs to check with her agent to see if she can get anything cheaper than what she has. She's been with Nationwide since the late 60s. She's only ever had 1 claim on her house when the washer hose burst in the middle of the night and ruined the carpet in the den. And she got a lot of flack from Nationwide because the carpet she had wasn't cheap.
She's been paying close to $180/month just for car insurance for quite a while. I pay a little over, but I'm younger, a male, and I drive a full size truck that has a higher value than her car. So I told her to call her agent and have them send her some info on other companies. So she called and they sent her a few choices.
She can switch to Progressive and her payment would go from almost /$180/month WAY down to just over $50/month. She'd be saving right at $130/month. Plus, the amounts on the coverage would double.
Her car is a 2011 Nissan Altima with just over 25k miles. She bought it brand new in 2011 and rarely drives it. She drove it more back when she bought it. But now, she hardly ever drives it. It actually hasn't been on the road in about 6 months.
