Of course, Alabama is one of those so you're looking for 12 teams here. Make your guesses and as @TerryP suggested "let's leave Google out of this."

So, from 1960 up until present day how many can you name?

  1. Alabama
  2. Miami
  3. Clemson
  4. FSU
  5. Florida
  6. Texas
  7. Notre Dame
  8. Ohio State
  9. USC
  10. LSU
  11. Penn State
  12. Oklahoma
  13. Nebraska

Oh gosh, so this is basically over some of our lifetimes.

  1. Bama
  2. LSU
  3. Florida
  4. FSU
  5. Clemson
  6. Miami
  7. Oklahoma
  8. Nebraska
  9. Texas
  10. USC
  11. Penn State
  12. Ohio State

Damn. I went by conferences...I don't think I've missed one out of the PAC. I know I haven't out of the SEC and ACC. So, I'm missing a B1G team? I don't think Michigan has won more than the one under Carr.

You're slipping, the oldest natty is often the one I was struggling with. With ND that wasn't a problem, unfortunately.
My problem was the starting point. I knew the SEC teams off the top of my head; same with the ACC and the Almost 12. When it got to the B1G...

But, Notre Dame--without its conference affiliation--just didn't cross my mind. And geez, how much did we hear about those Domers a few years ago.

Slipping? Hell, I fell.

I think there is a weekly newspaper in central Alabama that has Awarded AU with 4-5.
There are nine times Auburn has been selected as National Champion by various publications. Now, some of those are from what they consider "minor selectors." One of those is '93 and I want to say '83 is another. If you took the Wiki route you'll probably see '04 there.

It's just another of those boring, off-season, let's talk rings kind of conversations.

Auburn recognizes two.

FWIW, if we looked and counted the number of major and minor selectors we'd be looking at a number in the mid-20's for Bama--probably closer to upper mid 20's (27-28 or so.)

And a TN fan says to me...."we got 17". .....lol. Those 20s. 30s. 40s are all kinda funny...
For us especially 41....
Press polls, BCS, playoffs... but some of those 20s n 30s had some impressive resumes...
Hard to include Opilika sports as a serious awarder...
i havebeen around and never remember AU being recognized...Outside Lee County..as NCs...including 93..83..or 04... i even question 57 ..on probation...and no bowl???
But...as its said....it is june....

Speaking of multiple titles...Does this mean I have to keep up with the NBA now??
