This is posted on EDSBS.com, but it's actually from Smart Football:

It goes all in depth about schemes and such. Good (but long) reading if you are interested in the nuts and bolts of Saban's defensive schemes:

Saban has been coaching defense – and coaching it quite well – for decades. But there is no question that the defining period of his coaching career was 1991-1994, when he was Bill Belichick’s defensive coordinator with the Cleveland Browns. Just knowing that tells you a great deal about Saban’s defense: he (primarily) uses the 3-4; he’s very aggressive, especially on passing downs; he wants to stop the run on first and second down.....

i feel very good about this game if we can stop the run and force them into the air. with TC at NT that should help us out with keeping them out of the area between the tackles and give a little more freedom to the LBs to do what a CNS defense does....lots of LB attacks on the QB. i think this season we will be able to run alot more stunts also attributed to a CNS defense.

something else to consider, Burton Burns was Clemson's RB coach a few years ago. i'm sure he has given the staff some sort of insight on the Clemson offense and some personnel information.

This game will still come down to making the game go a full 4 quarters. In other words, our fellas need to have their wheels under them in the 4th quarter, just like in the 1st and 2nd quarter. The past few years, our talent in the 1st string has matched up pretty well against just about anyone, until the end of the game, when it's clear we are at a disadvantage. I hope Saturday is different, but all these young guys playing means that Saban believes they are the best to play. How will they do in the 4th quarter?

Saban is our DC? What happened to Kevin Steele? :D

Wait, I thought Kirby Smart was our Defensive Coordinator now. :D

I think that it is:
Sabin - Head coach in charge of defense
Steele - Asst. Head coach in charge of defense
Smart - DC in charge of defense. :D

Yeah I was playing along with some sarcasm. I'm fine with every defensive coach having the D-Coordinator title...whatever keeps them around. :D
