🏈 I'm guessing you've asked yourself this question. It needs to be asked. Is the B1G lying about the spring season?

Of course they are lying.

I'm dumbfounded anyone supports the notion of a college football player playing a Spring and Fall football season in the same calendar year.

In my opinion the NCAA should have been out in front leading the charge on this. They missed an opportunity to get organized and do this collectively. It is their mission statement.

I'm still of the opinion there will be no college football season this school year. Hope I'm wrong.

Did y'all see the "stupid ass" proposal that Jeff Brohm from Purdue put out? Just the highlights of his proposal.
8 game Spring season to run from February 27th thru April 17th
10 game Fall season in 2021 to run from October 2nd thru December 11th

These douche canoes also want early enrollees to be eligible for the Spring season. Some of those kids could be playing upwards of 33 games from August 2020 thru December 2021!!! WTH??? They seem real concerned about the safety of the student athlete!!!

How can it be a lie when it's their desire? They want to play, but don't see it as possible for Fall (for whatever reason). Their success for a Spring season will be dependent on who else moves their games to Spring.

I don't believe it is actually their "desire". I feel that it is more of a "PR stunt" to try and save face. Logistically, I just don't see how a lot of these other entities like the NFL are going to stop their machine to accommodate the Big 10. Combine normally runs in February and draft in the Spring.

The viability of the spring season is highly doubtful. If they are as logical and they are thinking this through with the health and well being of players in mind, they would realize putting kids through 20 or so games in a season isn't healthy. It's unwise. The suggestion of a spring season as a recourse is placating an audience with an idea they themselves realize likely won't work.

If they realize these things, saying they plan on playing in the spring is just that, the B1G lying about their plans (when they have no intentions on playing in the spring as it is.)

It's a financial goal. The TV rights ($51.1M per team in 2019) won't get paid unless they play.

Unless they play in the fall. That's what you're saying, right?

I don't know if the contract is per year or season (most likely per season). If nobody plays in the B1G this Fall, nobody is paid. If they move the schedule to Spring, they get paid (but probably a lesser amount due to fewer total games. If they then have another season in the Fall of 2021, do they get paid twice in 2021?

I dont see why it cant be done....
Or tried....
To many games...I remember the argument about 15 games....where 2 teams are now....and probably be 16 soon...when playoffs are expanded....add in spring game...bam...ur at 17
If it has to happen because of the $$$$$$ .....it will....
Regardless of what anyone believes..or wants to believe.... the $$$ drives the product

But there is one big hurdle - college administrators. The purpose of college is education. If a college president puts academics behind sports, they won't be college president much longer.

In a word, yes. They delayed the cancellation (I'm calling it what it is, instead of a postponement) until they could get the tuition money from students and they are going to string players along (not to mention fans/boosters/students/recruits) with the idea of a spring season in hopes of maintaining fall practice time and to try and keep guys from transferring. They'll just kick the can down the road on pulling the trigger. It's the CFB equivalent of taking Milton off payroll and moving him and his red stapler downstairs into a storage room instead of just manning up and firing him.

It's a lie because they have no desire to play. Their desire is to prevent player transfers and recruit decommits. As long as they can dangle a carrot in front of them they have a chance to accomplish that. No carrot, no chance.

Intramural football and basketball = GOOD GOOD GOOD

Competitive football and basketball = BAD BAD BAD

So, playing Devil's Advocate here. What is the racial mix of football and basketball compared to intramurals? Any possibility an enterprising lawyer might be able to make a few bucks on that discrimination lawsuit?

Aren't they just trying to balance the pandemic and its unknowns while trying to keep the "business" economically viable? Why would they not do this? If things improve they try the spring season if they do not they cancel. Now they may already have an idea that the probability of a spring season is low but not zero. Things can change a lot in 5 or 6 months.

Personally I think they should have tried it in the fall. Try it and see if it can be managed. I am hopeful that is what the SEC ultimately does. Try it if there is an issue try to manage it and if you can't be reasonably manage then shut it down. At least you gave it a shot.

I would assume they'd get paid twice.
