This ESPN Blogger annoints CNS as King of College Recruiting. I'd like to think it's true, but even if it just somewhere near the truth should we see some benefit here in the final Golden hours of the recruiting season? Surely so. In fact, how can one argue that we would not at least do as well as our rivals. Right?

So, sunshine pumped, who's still nervous about Wednesday?

You called.

I'm so ready for Wednesday to be done with. It seems that ever since Dee Hart and Xavier Dickson committed it has been nothing but bad news. I know, most of our class was wrapped up by October, but I get caught in that perception bit at times. It doesn't help that I'm in Georgia, and the whole dream team is taking off. Then I hear all the auburn stuff, and it just feels like we're sitting still.

I just wonder what the rankings will look like if we don't get anyone else. There is no way it won't be affected. I'm surprised Saban is being mentioned as the best recruiter because frankly it just doesn't feel that way right now. I think it speaks volumes of the respect that people all across the nation have for him and his system though.

I'm sorry...I just can't follow this thought process. Saban has brought together one of the finest recruiting classes in the country and you're surprised he's being mentioned as the best? Why does it have to be "what have you done for me lately?" If we went by that...it would be whoever got the last highly ranked recruit would be #1.

I realize that sounds really negative now that I read what I wrote. I feel like I'm all caught up in the perception here at the end. Like I said UGA and Auburn are closing very strong. It appears that we might not be. We might end up closing strong as well. If we get Cyrus plus anyone else I'll change my tune. I'm nervous about Cyrus though, and I'm not sure about anyone else.

Even if we don't "close strong" this class is still something to behold. Do we really need to close strong though? What's the difference in getting a commit in August as opposed to January?

Saban makes his living as a recruiter. He's among the best program builders because he understands how to sell his vision and he hires assistants that can do the same. I would say he is easliy the best recruiter of major college coaches right now. Not saying he's the best ever, or that someone currently coaching won't one day be better, but winning recruiting is how Saban wins games.

Your class is amazing, don't get caught up in the rivals/scout/espn rankings. Marcel Dareus was only a 3 star recruit if memory serves. So were Terrance Cody and Nick Fairly. Sen-derrick Marks was a 2* that had no D1FBS offers until Tubberville happened upon him dunking a basketball while recruiting another player at his school.

I never really worried about Tubs recruiting classes because he had a coaching staff that turned out good players consistently. He got into trouble in the end by signing too many risky players from an academic standpoint. Those classes were usually ranked around 8-18 nationally. It didn't usually matter.

hey fosh, were you a tubbs fan? i thought he was a great coach.. i hate to see some auburn fans forget about the success he had there.. i know chizik has the title and all, and i believe malzahn to be the real deal.. but i still have alot of respect for what tubbs did at AU.. he ran a class operation IMO

Yes I really liked Tuberville. He had almost no issues off the field and his teams were usually good despite never getting the best recruits. I thought firing him was a mistake, but I disagree with the way Lowder does a lot of things. I have nothing for respect for Tubs.

Looking back, I think he and his staff got a little complacent and started to rely too much on oversigning and placing kids in Juco's.

Chizik has been a pleasant surprise and I'm anxious to see how well replicates the success of this season moving forward.

Building on that just a bit...and, I firmly believe this is one of the main reasons he took the job in Texas.

In the last few years of his time at Auburn I felt Tuberville wanted to work the recruiting trail much like Mack Brown does at Texas: from his office chair. Saban's arrival, with the coup we had in Mobile that year, was a large wake-up call for both the staff and some of the fan base.

I thought it was unfortunate that some realized Tubs was being out worked while the majority were <strike>focused</strike> obsessed with things like "Dre's car" and the ole "PLOI in three weeks" stories.
