While sitting here thinking about where the baseball team is 15 games into the 2014 season a few numbers jumped out at me. Blame BamaFan334 for sending me off on this little tangent when he mentions how he's hoping the team continues to play as they have been and doesn't suffer a fall off as they've done in the past.
This all started with me looking at the conference series the Tide have left to play. There are three teams that jump out to me; all three currently ranked higher than the Tide in the USAToday poll.
As much as I'd love to see the Tide win the SEC regular season title it seems reasonable to think that they're staring at a #3 seed when the SEC tournament starts. The three teams left on the schedule who are ranked higher than AlabamaāLSU, Florida, and South Carolinaāare all within three games of the Tide going into this weekend.
Here are a few odd's and endsāor stats if you willāthat continue with the theme of three.
Our starting pitchers, Justin Kamplain, Jon Keller and Spencer Turnbull, have allowed three runs or less in 21 games this year. These three combined for 24 starts this season and have allowed more than three runs in losses, three times.
It seems to me this note deserves some place in the record books. There are six losses this season where there's been a total of three runs scored where the Tide has lost, 2-1.
This week may give a clue as to how Gaspard will handle the pitching rotation in this years tournament. Alabama plays five games in the next six days ending this weekend in a three game series in Knoxville against 9-6, Tennessee.
Of the four home losses the Vols have this season three are to SEC teams.
