🏈 If Coach Mac goes to CO, who do we get for OC?

The prerequisite would be experience and willingness to run a pro style offense. I'm not sure at this point. I don't believe we'd promote from within, but who out there (in college) isn't running some variation of the spread. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with the spread, but Saban has mentioned a number of times his willingness to put players in a position to exceed at the next level, and to be quite frank, the spread doesn't exist in the NFL.

Would he go after a current NFL assistant?

I think Saban has more connections than AT&T....No tellin where he could find someone...but I would be of the belief that he would dip from the NFL.

how about Joey Jones down in South Alabama isn't he an offensive coach...or how about this guy....not sure if he is an offensive coach but i know he is really loved by most Alabamians and he is very familiar with the spread ...what about .. Rush Propst..I don't see us going out and getting a bigtime OC not with Saban there...

It might tick off the Miami Dolphins to no end, but if McElwain leaves I would want to hire Dan Henning.

He pioneed the Wild Cat in the NFL, and calls great plays with it. Thought hed be good for the position since we wont lose much in regard to our formations, and wed prolly gain a FB.

EDIT:Also has spent some time in the college game.

Dont jump on me please, but where do we usually get people anywho?? Like where did Mcelwain or good 'ol Applewhite come from?? I could probably look it up but why do that with y'all here!!

Doesn't matter who he hires. It will be the playbook that Saban sets forth that he will teach. If memory serves me correct, Offense, Defense, and Special Teams coaches have a playbook that the teach/coach from. They are allowed to put about 30% of their stamp on their respective areas of coaching, but all in all, Saban has a manuscript of plays that you teach from.

Ron Middleton told a funny story in regards to this, after he left to go to Duke and coach with Cutcliffe.

The idea of "melding" CNS playbook with tweaks from another is pretty ingenious IMO. When you have coaches that leave to go elsewhere (fires or promotion), then you don't have a huge learning curve with offensive/defensive nomenclature and difficulty grasping a new offense.

I would LOVE to have Dan Henning! What would be the chances on us landing a guy like him?

Dana Holgorsen
Shawn Watson
Matt Limegrover
Mike Martz
David Shaw
Bryan Harsin
Mark Helfrich
Paul Chryst
Kevin Wilson
Chuck Long
Dan Hawkins
Chris Klenakis
Dick Bumpas

All of these would be worthy of consideration. If you want to know who they are, google them.

Norm Chow would be a terrible choice. Just look at his dreadful record at UCLA. Is this coming from the same people that thought Rick Neuheisel should have been considered as head coach?
