💬 I caught this on Twiiter. Who is your all time favorite player in every sport?

NBA - Don't really watch or care, but I always liked Jerry Stackhouse and Dominique Wilkins.
NFL - Julio Jones or Adrian Peterson. Brady and Peyton were/are fun to watch with how they can dissect a defense.
NCAAF - TJ Yeldon or Trent Rochardson
NCAAB - Jerry Stackhouse with Vince Carter in a close second. Collin Sexton was fun to watch as well.
MLB - Dale Murphy was always my guy growing up. Ken Griffey Jr. was a guy I emulated playing Home Run Derby.
NHL - Never watch hockey, but I'll take a badass like Bob Probert.
Golf - Always liked Freddie Couples, of course Tiger was fun to watch until his ego took over, but I also really like Matt Kuchar and Rickey Fowler.
Tennis - Never watched much, but Sampress was always good to watch. Federer is probably my guy just because of his abilities and the class he exudes.

NBA - Dr. J (Julius Erving)
NFL - Alan Page
NCAAF - Derrick Thomas
NCAAB - Reggie "Mule" King
MLB - Reggie Jackson
NHL - N/A
Golf - Tiger Woods
Tennis - Jimmy Conners

Should trade hockey for boxing:

NBA - would be Bill Russell if I was old enough to have seen him, but it is Tim Duncan. Quiet professional and kept defense relevant.

NFL - Joe Montana as Niner and even as a chief. He is my all time fave. Just a winner. I blame Tecmo Bowl and it's unstoppable Hail Mary pass from Montana to Rice.

NCAAF - Derrick Thomas (def) and David Palmer (offense). There are likely some good arguments for more contemporary players or even older players, but these are the best two of my youth that represent Bama football for me.

NCAAB - like the NBA, it would be Pistol Pete but it is Christian Laettner. Truly one of the greatest of an era. One of the most memorable shots of all time and incredible post season runs every year.

MLB - it's very close between Maddux, Glavine, and Smoltz ... But I think its Smoltz

NHL - gretsky... virtually the only one I could have named before the age of 30

Golf - Tiger. And, it's not close. He changed the face and culture of golf.

Tennis- entertainment: John McEnroe. Skill/dominance: Serena Williams

NBA - Michael Jordan
NFL - Kenny Stabler
NCAAF - Derrick Thomas
NCAAB - Pistol Pete
MLB - Mickey Mantle
NHL - Wayne Gretzsky

I can remember getting out of church on Sunday nights...begging my mom for her keys so I could go out to the car and listen to the Dallas game on the radio. I was a kid...geez, early elementary, if that.

There's also context here. At that early age I was reading at a Junior High level and had already read a few books on Staubach. (Hell dude, already getting board from The Hardy Boys series at that age.) It was his college career, Navy career, and the Heisman to boot that turned me into a fan.

You know damn well your old ass was like 20 when Staubach was playing lol

Seriously, though, football is how my parents got me into reading. Mom first taught me how to read when I was three but I always hated it. All the way into like fourth grade, despised reading and she could never get me to do any of the reading (especially summer reading). Then, she goes to some thrift store and buys a sack full of football books. One of them was "The NFLs Greatest Linebackers" and another was "The NFLs Greatest QBs." That's how I first learned about players like Staubach, Bart Starr, Montana, Lee Roy Jordan, etc. and then the she got a bunch of Alabama books and that was all she wrote. I have literally hundreds and hundreds now.

There you go. I read the same books along with countless others (IE: Greatest Kickers, etc..)

I was a pro sports fan as a kid, don't care anymore except for former Bama players. Was a Raiders/Lakers/Dodgers fan as a kid. Most of my list is from that time period.

NBA - Kareem Abdul Jabbar
NFL - Ed "Too Tall" Jones(the Cowboys were my second NFL team)
NCAAF - Joey Jones/Derrick Thomas
NCAAB - Robert Horry
MLB - Fernando Valenzuela
NHL - Do not care
Golf - Would say DNC but always thought Lee Trevino was funny
Tennis- Chris Evert Lloyd, was in love with her as a lad/teen.

NCAAF - Wow! Tough one...SO many
NCAAB - Antoine Pettway and Robert Horry

NHL - ALWAYS! Mario Lemeiux (@TerryP ...Jagr... HA!;))
Golf - Phil Mickleson
Tennis- McEnroe...just for the side show
Soccer (because I'm adding it) - Abby Wambach

What a surprise! You have Philly athletes in yours (shudder!), and I have Pittsburgh athletes in mine...I guess it's a good thing you're a Bama girl!;):-)#RollTide But Mia and Carli! Yes ma'am!

NHL - ALWAYS! Mario Lemeiux (@TerryP ...Jagr... HA!;))
Growing up in N AL I really wasn't exposed to NHL. I've never lived in a city where there was a pro hockey team. Believe you me, tough decision!
NHL - Jagr...tough one this one, real tough one.

The Bulls left Birmingham in the early 80s. I only was able to go to a couple of them, when my dad could spare the time and money. That of course all came on the heels of the greatest moment in sports, Miracle on Ice. ESPN barely made a dent in their hockey coverage at the time as well. I just got hooked and kept up with them the best way I could.
