I was watching College Football Final on ESPN this morning and I almost had a heart attack. Todd McShay and Mark May both said Bama will contend for the SEC West and McShay even said that he thinks Alabama is going to be a sleeper team in the Nation.

Thought y'all might have it as ammusing as I did.

Contending for the West isn't a stretch. We were last season up until the LSU game. I didn't think we'd end up winning it, but a win vs the Bayou Bengals?.?.?.? What would have that had done for the team?

That said, not a big fan of McShay. He forgets, elephants have long memories.

and Biggggggg... tusks! The S&C of the team has come a long way. The understanding of the defense has come a long way. I can see Bama in the hunt for the West, but with all the question marks surrounding the team... LBs.. (will Zeke be healthy, will PH get it together) DL, (will our DEs provide enough pressure); WRs, (will two guys step up to be "the guys" as DJ and Brown did); will QB play become more consistant, will the two new key coaches help us improve OC and special teams?...

There's alot to work out between now and the end of fall before I'll go thinking us a sleeper team.

I'm not a big fan of anybody at ESPN, but I thought it was interesting to hear people over there giving us credit for something.

In my opinion I think we'll all be able to see what kind of a team we have once we play Clemson.

Seeing how that's the fist game I woundnt' put all my eggs in that basket, but it will be a starting mark. Remember LSU had 2 losses and still won the NC...Just something to think own.

You make a good point. All I was trying to say was if we get blown out by Clemson that should tell us something.

I actually heard the same from one of the local radio shows today. They considered Bama in the hunt for the West along with Auburn and LSU.

I don't think that they looked at our road schedule next season. Ga., Ark., Tn., LSU all on the road. With a squad not quite where we want it to be depth wise or talent wise, I think 2009 will be the year we contend seriously.

I was watching ESPN prior to the Florida Spring game and Herbstreet says that Bama will make a strong case in the SEC west especially if LSU loses Perrilloux... Did anyone else catch that?

I saw it on ESPN2 Saaturday night when I got home from the game. They talked about the tough road schedule but I was surprised that they didn't really say anything negative about Bama. The only teams they hinted around us having a problem with is Georgia and Clemson. But like the rest of you, I couldn't believe they actually had something good to say about us. They sounded hyped up talking about us contending for the west.

I'm sorry but I do not see it this year. I think the 2009 and 2010 seasons could be special though. I think 7-5 or 8-4 is about right for 2008.
