🧑‍🍳 How often do you guys use an air fryer?

A few weeks ago I mention the one I had its last hurrah. So, I went shopping (clicking, as it were.)

The first place I visited was Ninja. It wasn't because I wanted that brand: I wanted to know what options were available on air fryers today. After all, that's your "Cadillac" of AF's. I settled, if you will, on Gourmia. Same features; different price point.

I'm starting to experiment because I like this so much. It's still easy...just three six strips of bacon in for 8 minutes while making the rest of a BLT. It all came together at the same time.

BUT, yesterday? Coffee cake. As I'm starting to wrap my mind around this thing ... I'm coming up with A LOT of different recipes/ideas.

Now...

Got two ground Bison patties in the 'fridge ... that's a test run this afternoon.

I'm thinking about trying a couple of boneless sirloins I've got ...

FWIW, Gourmia vs Ninja ... same thing, @ 1/3rd the cost. It's just not as "sleek/spacey" looking on some designs.

I use one several times a week to either reheat or cook something (like chicken tenders).
I can't think of the brand name. It's a bag that has potatoes, several peppers, and onions that's meant for AF. Love it! And, I use mine about like you sans the "reheat." A ham/cheese - grilled cheese ... really good. There are pre-made options, quite a few, out there....just haven't pulled the trigger.

@Krimson it's turned into a rabbit hole found through a kitchen tool. If I can do coffee cake I can do apple cake. If I can both, then it's blueberry cornbread types for morning muffins. I have some fresh strawberries I'd planned on using to make a strawberry cheesecake bars. I can do that in the AF vs oven. Heat...easy to put together like the original, easier cleanup.

Back to the BLT...I normally will bake a lb in the oven or cook it in the iron skillet, stop top. Today was the first for bacon ... and I got say. Easier clean up, Not as much heat. Had to turn it over once (notification said so 🙃 )

OH...got some lightly breaded okra at the fish market the other day...some local guy. I'm looking forward to trying that.

I think the new iteration we have is capable of air frying but we only use it as an oven. The rv oven was not consistent with temps so we bought a toaster oven but I'm pretty sure it has multiple functions. Mostly used for cookies and biscuits

When I bought my last toaster oven (within the last year) I looked at a few of those options. I didn't thinking "got an air fryer."

Mrs. Bama got an air fryer from Pampered Chef for basically nothing bc she had accumulated so many points or something. Anyway, we use ours on a regular basis. Love wings cooked in the air fryer.

Wings, fresh tenders, and boneless thighs are easy and good meals for the air fryer. If I'm being lazy (and want to save time and hassle), I'll throw wings in the air fryer to crisp them up after they've been smoked and/or grilled instead of using oil to do it. Not quite as good as a real flash fry, but MUCH easier.

I got a Ninja last year, it was one of our company gift selections for Christmas. We use it a lot. Whenever I grill burgers, we always use it to do the onion rings or fries now instead of deep frying. Got to say, they're pretty damn good.

I bought a Blackstone a few months back, and I came very close to getting the one with the attached air fryers for that very reason... cook the fires and stuff while the burgers are cooking. Ultimately, decided against it and just went with the regular version... just wasn't sure how well the air fryers would hold up. Would have been mighty convenient though (I think it was 2 fryer baskets and 1 warming basket to keep food warm).

Not gonna lie, I was pretty skeptical about them, and I never thought of buying one, but when they had them on our items list for gifts, what the hell?, not costing me anything. Now if it bombs out, I will definitely go out and buy one.

I'm about in the same boat minus the price tag. Someone gave me one a few years ago that sat in the pantry for two years or so until I saw something one day...can't remember what. It was "okay, that was easy." Then grabbed some onion rings; another "okay." It's built from there.

I had some brunch baked potatoes topped with salmon and a few other things...with a salmon steak off the grill at lunch. Hardly any clean-up.

@PurlJam BTW, I mentioned looking at the Ninja's. I want to say the Gourmia was $73 less. There may be a difference in how long one last. There wasn't a difference on the features.
I think there’s a difference in some of the materials used in the actual cooking compartment. I could be wrong but I think that’s one of the brands that uses a different “compound” in their “non-stick”.

My daughter has the ninja dual (I bought it for them as a gift). She uses that thing 4-5 times a week at least. I’ve got an older cheaper version I bought years ago, and use it maybe 2-3 times a month.

There is a difference. It was one of the things that caught my eye: no (some acronym,) no Teflon, ceramic...

I'll argue I've not had a better grilled cheese sandwich.

I've never 'minded' having a GC made in a cast iron skillet. BUT...don't care for the toast at that point. Normally, saturated with butter and flattened by the 'cook.' I stopped doing it that way years ago and started making GC's in the toaster oven. Not too bad (except you lose the 'butter on both sides' thing if you don't want a mess.)

The AF puts both of those to shame. 280, five minutes, flip at 3.
