šŸˆ How many articles or interviews have you heard where one mentions the loss of Brown on the offensive line?

I'm thinking a half of a dozen for me. I know I can find one immediately over on CBSSports.com in their game predictions.

If I'm not mistaken, this one tries to compare the loss of Brown to the loss of Lawrence. It's basis is the Tide is looking at a significant drop off with Lester Cotton playing guard.

How does that strike you? A significant change?

As I've seen him mentioned it's struck me pretty weak 'take.' Because he's been beaten out by Brown, doesn't take away from how good Lester is. Think about it for a second—he's taken a hell of a lot of snaps in his career. He had five starts in 2016. He would have started every game last year but was injured before UGA.

Oh shit. So, I decided I'd go find the comments...and lo and behold. I really had no idea—just skimmed the article the first time around.

Why Clemson will win: This game comes down to the trenches, and one simple question: Do you trust Clemson minus Dexter Lawrence or do you trust Alabama's offensive line minus Deonte Brown? I'll take the Tigers defensive front, due in large part to the depth and versatility guys like Christian Wilkins, Clelin Ferrell and Austin Bryant bring to the entire unit. They will draw plenty of eyeballs, which makes the job of Albert Huggins and Nyles Pinckney easier than the job of Lester Cotton -- Brown's replacement at left guard along the Crimson Tide offensive line. The Tigers will spend plenty of time in the backfield, disrupt plays before they get started and put more pressure on Tua Tagovailoa than any that he's seen this year -- Georgia included. Lawrence has been this year's freshman quarterback sensation, and he will lead the Tigers to the title. -- Barrett Sallee

IMHO Cotton is a solid pass blocker but man he makes me nervous as hell when it’s 3rd and short yardage. Not because of his run blocking but because he seems to habitually get a case of the ā€œantsysā€ and draw a false start at the most inopportune times. Whatever though...I trust the coaches and the players implicitly at this point.

JMO but today's MSM is full of shite and just pathetic people given a voice about a game they know nothing about. 95% of them never played a down and if they wore a jock it would be over their nose. Do yourself a favor and just turn down the volume on Bama games so you don't hear a word they say. Watch the game. You will enjoy the games much more. My wife gets so mad at me but hey that is why we have a big TV in the bedroom as well as the great room.

This is the same Barrett Sallee who said Ole Miss was a trap game and they would beat Bama.

Coach Bryant........"Here's a twenty, bury two." -- After being asked to chip in ten dollars to help cover the cost of a sportswriter's funeral.

Here's the questions to be asked and answered to determine who should win the game:

1. Was Oklahoma's Offensive Line better than Clemson's?
- Oklahoma's OL was awarded as the best OL in College Football.
- Commentators in the Orange Bowl, "Right now, Alabama's DL is Blowing Up Oklahoma's OL".

2. Was South Carolina's Offensive Line better than Alabama's?
- South Carolina was able to put up 600 yards of offense against Clemson.

3. Is Jake Bentley of South Carolina a better Quarterback than Tua?
- He threw for 510 yards and 5 touchdowns with one INT.

The question you have to ask yourself is which Clemson team will show up the one that played against SC or the one that played ND.
I can assure you we will see the one that played ND. This is going to be a very hard game. I would take a one point win right now.

@OriginalBamachris,

You'll find a lot who look at Clemson as a team that plays up or down depending on their competition. It's easy to find games over the last few years where they've done just that--play down to competition.

What makes me laugh is Pollack this morning. He was pleading with the others to listen when he said C. Miller could put no weight on his leg after his hammy injury. And without him, our D will struggle. Heck, did Pollack even say Miller’s name all season? And now he thinks he’s the key to our success on D....

I don’t know that our D-Line ā€œblew upā€ OU’s O-Line in that game other than maybe some in the first quarter. Hell, Murray had 5-8 seconds to survey the field on a number of plays.

It isnt just "main stream media." Anyone that covers college sports has a take on this game, no matter how much they've actually seen of either or not. I heard Jonathan Vilma on a radio show last week (had no clue that dude was even an analyst now) talking about the game and he said that there was no drop off in Clemson's D-Line against Notre Dame despite having a big hole there with Lawrence, and that he doesn't expect that to change at Alabama and even went as far as to suggest Notre Dame's o-line is actually better than Bama's.

Some of this has already been said

I think the running game inside and some outside struggles some without Brown. He is (IMO) a more dynamic option especially pulling. Also can affect the screen game in some ways.

On the flip side I think in certain pass pro Cotton is a bit better unless it is in slide protection. I think Brown just has a little better footwork and may be a tad more aggressive than Cotton.

Overall as far as missing players I am more concerned if Miller isn't able to go and even then how effective he can be. He has 8 or 9 sacks on the year and that is hard to replace. JMO

I'm no O line coach, The O seemed to be noticeably smoother when Brown was playing in and they both had meaningful action. Whether that's directly related or not I don't know - But... Brown beat him out for a reason.

Pollack with the ā€œif C Miller doesn’t play that’s a 7-10 point swing in Clemson’s favor!ā€ LMAO
Cole Cubelic says that C Miller has exactly 1.5 sacks the last 5 games. Cole has also said that Quinnen will be a problem all night for Clemson. He said OU had the better OL and Q should cause havoc.
I don’t think any OLB is worth a 7-10 point swing!!

That's not the point.

It's the amount of drop off in line play from one to the other--Clemson's versus Bama's. It's still an equal play.
