The newer players are "definitely" making progress, the Crimson Tide's quarterback says.
Only four full-time starters return from Alabama's 2011 defense, the bedrock of a national championship team. That defense led the nation in all major statistical categories.
How is the 2012 defense doing? Are the young players making progress?
"Definitely," said no less of an authority than AJ McCarron, the Crimson Tide's starting quarterback.
"I don't think when you get into college football there's young or old anymore. Those guys, no matter if you're a freshman or a senior, you have to play. You get out there, especially with Coach (Nick) Saban, and if you don't make plays, you don't last long out there with him.
"So, Coach Saban and Coach (Kirby) Smart and all the defensive coaches, they do a great job of coaching those guys and getting them ready."
