šŸˆ How does A.J. McCarron get totally overlooked for these chances at being a starting Q.B. ?

Ravens ---- flacco being hurt ..

Bills ---- E.J Manuel

Bears ---- Mike Glennon

Browns ---- Cody Kessler

Texans ----Tom Savage

There are a couple more starting Q.B.'s that are sub par with a history of mediocrity in the N.F.L.

Because the Bengals are wanting to hold onto him. They have been approached before and did not want to let him go. Now once he reaches free agency, maybe he will test the waters. I think that happens after this season.

Would be interesting to know what his value is to other clubs, given the value of QBs in the NFL. Maybe they simply aren't sold on their starter, otherwise, he's walking after this season.

Yeah, like others have said hes not really being overlooked. The Bengals are asking a high price tag for him, I believe before the draft they wanted a first rounder and a cpl late round picks. That is a huge tag for a guy that has been a career backup (thus far). Several teams on your list were ones that approached the Bengals. That high price tag was the Bengals pretty much saying "we dont want to trade but if you want him it'll cost." Dalton has gone down before and having a competent, capable backup QB in the NFL is very, very valuable these days. When AJ's contract ends, I dont see him re-upping, he'll get plenty of offers. The tricky thing, though, is his contract. He becomes a RESTRICTED free agent this year, meaning the Bengals can match any offer another team offers AJ and I think there are other options (like the Bengals can agree not to match an offer, but then the team that signs AJ has to give the Bengals a 2nd rounder or something like that).

First off.... the second best job in the nfl is "backup QB". ......(the best is FG kicker)..
May not make $$$
...may not get into HOF...but dont get hit alot either (Stabler was a backup QB for years...look how that turned out) holding a clip board...and everyone loves you
His time will come...maybe...
AJ is one of Bamas greatest.... nfl's....?????

I don't see how anyone could say he's not a starter after taking over for dalton and having the success he had under pressure of the end of the season. Had the playoff game won if not for a running back not holding on to the ball and the defense imploding .

AJ's not? Yeah, well the fact that he led the Bengals to the Playoffs says you're wrong.

I agree that AJ is not a top tier QB and that he is better than some starting currently. The problem now is he is with the Bengals and he is not going to move ahead of Dalton, Brown will not allow it. He would have to go to the right team and system to be a starter in the NFL. I have no ill will toward him at all, in fact, I wish him well but I do not see him starting in Cincy, less than a two hour drive from my house. Hopefully, he will get a chance to play and start somewhere in the near future.

Birdman37, my Alabama brother, with respect to what you wrote, I disagree. He did not lead them to the playoffs. Dalton was injured in game 13 of the 2015 season. Cincinnati finished the year with a 12-4 mark and AJ went 2-1 starting the last 3 games. They lost in OT to Pittsburgh in the first round of the playoffs. I believe that was there 5th or 6th loss in the first round. Last year, there was no playoffs with a 6-9-1 record. So many missed Field Goals and AJ Green missing 7 games had a lot to do with that.

The NFL can't figure out if Kirk Cousin is an elite QB. He's still starting and pulling in over 20 million dollars a season for the second year in a row. AJ has Kirk Cousin potential and he just needs to find himself in a scheme that lets him maximize his strengths. To do that he has got to get out of Cincy and for goodness sake, stay away from Cleveland.

I think he could be a good fit for a few teams. I don't think he would fit well with a Patriots or Saints type team as I don't feel he has the arm to sling it around that much each and every week. But a team like the Falcons, Titans, Texans, Raiders that are more true pro style with decent backs and a good number of receivers are what he would need. I'm not saying those exact teams as they have confirmed and sturdy starters, but teams like them. The Chiefs, Dolphins, Giants, and a team like the Bills could use a guy like him. If Dak didn't pan out, even the Cowboys would be a great spot for him.
