🏈 Homefield advantage

I know LSU Bama rivalry hasnt always been an advantage for home team.

The game I thought was most effected by home field was at Kyle field this year. There was distinct issue with OL getting calls right for Bama.

Any other games which had similar effect though not necessarily the outcome of game?

Has BDS ever been that much of home field advantage?

We all know what the issue was there and also saw how those calls improved once Hassenauer settled in ... more nerves than talent or a lack of understanding the blocking calls.

This is such a misunderstood portion of the games. Home Field Advantage is related to wagers on Sportsbooks. There's a misconception it's three points. It's not. In 2013 Bama carried almost a 6.5 HFA number when it came to setting the spread. It's very important to note HFA is largely calculated on how a team does on the road versus how that team does at home. A true three point advantage for being at home would boil down to a team scoring three more points (on average) at home versus on the road.

Spread wise, Bama isn't carrying a large HFA this season.

Some fans complain about the lack of fan noise at BDS. However, if you ask people who are on the field (players, coaches, recruits), they will tell you it is very loud and it does impact the game. The acoustics of BDS are impacted by an original 1920s stadium that has been added to multiple times. In the original design, crowd noise was not a consideration. Today, the noise from the crowd goes toward the field but doesn't echo off the opposing grandstand. As a result, fans don't think it is as loud as it actually is.

I think a lot of noise misconception comes from the broadcast games as well. Some station coverages really turn down the stadium noise to accommodate the commentators. It's different network to network and game to game it seems. Personally I like it when they play a little more natural stadium sound - makes it feel more like you're there with the surround sound on the tv.

I posted in another thread but will
Post again. The crowd at the UT game sounded very subdued. At least on the TV. Then my UT fans told me at church that it was the quietest crowd in all their years of going to the game at BDS. They've not missed one since we moved the home games there. Did anyone of you there notice it being quieter? UT didn't have any false start penalties that I remember.

And Saban made comments about hoping our crowd would rise up when we were on D during the weekending up to the game. Thought that might inspire the fans.

I was at the game....I think it boils down to Bama fans are smart they know how the game works and when to be loud. They are quiet when Bama has the ball and loud when they need to be. It was loud at the UT game. It was deafening on the last drive that UT had the ball. If you recall UT had a false start on the last drive completely due to the fans....LSU fans are nuts and scream the whole time. I think Bama fans are completely into the game and know when to try and effect the game.....case in point...On one play....they threw a flag on a pass down the sideline. It was a little high and sailed over both receiver and defenders head..as the refs gathered....right away about a 75 yr old woman a few rows up stood up and started making the "uncatchable" sign waving her hand over her head. I was like wow...."this lady knows whats up."

I attended an Alabama-LSU game at BDS around 1990, and it was the most subdued, silent crowd I EVER recall for this "rivalry" game. LSU was down. Bama was the heavy favorite. The game was never in question. My how times change.

I did meet Robert Horry and Latrell Sprewell that afternoon.

gc90, BDS HFA was huge last year with our QB. On the road, he struggled to get signals from Lane many times.

????? Crowd noise doesn't affect hand signals.
Doesn't have any affect on HFA numbers either.

It was pretty big last year but that was due to an average margin of victory (road games) of four while it was in double digits at home.

You think too much.
