Well then it's settled. I misunderstood what Argo was writting about. So my bad there.
As for "Monkeytown"....you have the right decade....just your source is wrong.
the nickname for Montgomery (Monkeytown) was 1st coined by the Pro Wrestler Burrhead Jones (Melvin Nelson).
While Originally from Moncks Corner, SC. In the ring Burrhead was famouse for his signiture "headbutt" & halied from.........wait for it......
MONKEYTOWN, ALABAMA. @ a time when there was still wise spread segrigation throught the country, Burhead was doing things other African American couldn't.
As a kid Burhead was a sat afternoon hero of mine. Who i met on several occations being that my dad was drinking buddies with Jimmy Golden & Ron Fuller AKA the Tennesee Stud.
Burhead wad a nice guy and when ever he saw me he'd tap his knuckles on top of my head & give me 5.00 for candy. i was 7 or 8 @ the time.

As for the CB thing, I dorove trucks in and around Alabama for the last 8 years up untill this year. And was on the CB every day.
And yeah it's still commonly called that on the cb bu local & regional drivers. You get out side the SE US & it's seldom heard.
Hope this clears that up for yas.
THIS is why I love this site! Where else can you get quality information like this? The B'ham wrasslers during my growing up years included good guy Len Rossi and bad man Tojo Yamamoto. When Tojo brought out the Karate chops, and anything else he could get his hands on, no man was safe.
