I know he irritated the hell out of a lot of Bama fans when he called the Bama/Zaga game, but Jay Bilas said it correctly...Authentic. Durn hippie was a genuinely nice guy to so many people. Glad he was able to have his family by his side.

With Portland when i was our west n we got Portland n Seattle games.

I enjoyed listening to him commentate. He had so many health issues through the years but he sure loved life. RIP.

One of those guys that as I got older, he kinda grew on me a bit. He was weird as hell, but sports needs those types of characters in it. In terms of his broadcasting style, I wouldn't have wanted him calling a Bama game of any importance, but those Thanksgiving tournament games that came on at 10 pm with little meaning were a good niche for him. I'm not really old enough to remember his playing days, but I know he was good. Would love to have been close by and seen/heard him and Mike Leach sit together on a cross country flight.

One of the all-time greats in college basketball history and the best passing center that I can recall. Seemed like a genuine good and happy individual which seems more and more rare these days.

For as much pot as he smoked, you would’ve thought he would live forever!!! To be serious though, he was a team player, gave everything he had to the game, and loved life.
