The two players were faced up. The block was perfectly legal and a technique I would be SHOCKED not taught to our linemen when pulling and in the open field.
Hightower, sadly, did not play off the blocker with his hands or forearm, as I was taught to defend a cut block over 30 years ago.
The results were not good, but as much of the blame for the injury can be laid on a poor defensive technique as on the blocking technique. Maybe even more on the former.
This is not being critical of Hightower, just stating fact. Or opinion.
