High speed internet or lack thereof

I've often wondered why America lags behind in fast internet speeds. Is it because of how large the country is? Perhaps it's because the demand isn't there. Does anyone know the answer?


This is the kind of speed I would like. My current connection sucks....

No wonder I spend so long on some forums, and get disgusted with others.

Hell I would settle for that. I had around 3 at my old home but I've recently moved and it's around 1.5 now.

Of course I live in a rural area but you would think the demand would be enough for the ISP's to upgrade their lines.

A T1 line is only 1.544Mb/s so you are getting about what would be expected.

I'm saying test the speed at the top universities in this country and you should see similar speeds.

Here's mine and we're using DSL lite. I could stand a little more speed.
