🏈 Helmet rule

Forgive me but why was this new rule implemented? I understand people can get hurt but come on its freaking football for crying out loud. I've seen this new rule change a drives momentum on teams over the weekend and I just don't get it. The same with the new kickoff rule in fear players collide too fast. Boohoo it's a mans sport and I bet if you asked the players, you know the ones actually out there putting their bodies on the line, they would say these rules are for powder puff football. If they are going to continue deminishing the excitement of the sport to lean on the side of safety then they might as well force teams to play on Xbox next year.

Sorry for the rant but these new rules irk me. The players of yesteryear are rolling over in their graves back when pads were non-existent and leather helmets were the norm. I hope this new helmet rule does t come back to bite us. As a former football player I never liked my headgear being overly tight. Personal preference and I wished they would let the men on the field make their own choices. They are grown men afterall.

Speaking of this rule.... on the play when Hubbard lost his helmet and Michigan got a face mask penalty, Hubbard didn't sit out the next play, did he? It was my first "experience" with the new rule too and unfortunately wasn't paying attention because I was too busy being relieved that we somehow avoided a penalty on that play as well. I would think it goes without saying that he didn't, but not sure how this works.

Yeah it doesnt apply if its the result of the penalty, still a freakin TERRIBLE rule especially when u have a time where the helmet is PULLED off like what happened to Lacy in the 2nd quarter. Im gonna really hate this one.

Yea as we saw tonight players will intentionally pull off the helmet to keep a player on the sidelines. All sorts of stuff happens at the bottom of the pile but now you have to factor in this BS.

The rule needs to go; today.

You're right, it was a BS rule from the start and it we all discussed how it was going to be abused.

If it's not gone this year, I'm betting it will be next spring. At the least, modified.

I guess I'm an old-timer now, but why is it so difficult to keep a helmet on your head? I don't remember seeing anyone lose their helmet the whole time I played football, through high school, and I dont' remember it happening often years ago in college football. This seems to me to be a recent phenomenon. Is it the hair? Do the players not strap up tightly? Is it an attempt by the player to make sure the fans at home can see a face?

I predict if the rule stays, you'll see fewer and fewer helmets coming off.

I heard that early in the Barns' game, they ripped Boyd's helmet off and he had to leave a play. I believe it came on 2nd down and therefore, he was on the sidelines for a 3rd and long play. Play resulted in a draw for minimal yds and Clemson had to punt. The rule needs to be done away with or modified IMMEDIATELY!1

Yeah, I recall them doing that to Boyd. Hell, his helmet came off 3 times and one of those times was the backup helmet. I'm pretty sure Michigan did it to Lacy when his helmet came off too, or at least that's what it seemed Lacy was saying to the sideline.

Yeah the direct opposite of your prediction is going to happen, defenses are going to pull the helmet off more and more to keep players on the sideline. This rule is TERRIBLE.

Rule is BS, if it is coming off in game action no reason to bench for a play. Stupid. These Helmets are lighter now days and are modified for impact, not like the helmets we used back in the day, like wearing a led weight and leaving your skull with impressions on it from wearing it for hours on end. Yes they should strap them on tighter, but I can remember wearing mine strapped on real tight and thinking during plays "wish I could loosen this thing around my chin" I hated that chinstrap, sweat, always had blisters from the strap and that button lock would rip and you would have to dig the damn metal button out to put a new strap on. I think if they pull the ole helmet off showing their face and such, all good for benching and penalizing, but the game action thing, its BS.
