No, it wasn't. In that particular case I thought it was a Roughing the Passer penalty maybe, but in no way was it targeting. Seems almost like they have been told to call it like crazy so the NCAA has to fix the rule.

It's going to be odd to see two bitter enemies, both Saban and Meyer, uniting to getting the rule either overruled or having some major rewriting done to it.

There was an obvious one in the barn game that they didn't call. No consistency with this BS. They're ruining the game with this crap.

Yeah I saw the hit you're talking about. Good hit to me, its football, but by the letter of the rule should have been flagged. The inconsistency is what's so annoying.

Yup, the inconsistency of the calls is what's so horrible.

Also seems like these refs have been told that if there's any question about it, throw the flag.

Well, that is the rule. "By rule, when in question, it is a foul." Problem is that the rule makes no allowance for incidental contact or contact caused by the player being hit trying to brace for the hit. In the long run, it is going to cause more injuries as either players try way too hard to pull back on plays and hurt themselves, everyone starts targeting the knees, or players realize even incidental contact gets them thrown out so they just run straight through people when they realize they are too close.

^^ speaking about knees... I think it was that dingbat Danny Kanell the other night I heard suggesting that when a DB hits a player below the waist it should be a flag too... the other commentator was like "so what? they cant hit a receiver high or low? you think there should be a strike zone on a receiver?" and he actually said yes. :icon_eek:
