Hell's Bells, as in the AC/DC song we've had played over the PA system at BDS.

The SEC has ruled that music and artificial noise makers are allowed at any time in football games except when the center is over the football.

Bells from hell? Allowed, but no need to tell you what I'm talking about there...

I thought it was an Unsportsmanlike conduct against the Home team, but it is never, ever called

As I recall, it's a three tiered penalty; warning, 5 yards, 15 yards on third offense.

My gut tells me it's a delay of game call. The last changes in how the rule was enforced came at the last of Shula's time here (I want to say before the 2006 season kicked off.)

On a side note: One of those interesting stories to me...

We've seen QB's and defensive players arm motions to quiet the crowd noise at the line of scrimmage. I doubt many realize that's actually part of the original rule. Players were supposed to do that when they were approached by the referee on their first warning about noise. However, at the time that rule passed it wasn't about artificial noise makers; it was about crowd noise, period.

It's interesting how they (SEC officials) looked at crowd noise then. I believe the terminology read "noise created in an unsportsmanlike gesture."

Oh, and for what it's worth, that rule is older than than I am and I've got you by a few years as I recall.
