šŸˆ Heard: "Kirby didn't do well as a coach, but he's done well recruiting."

I know our boy Justin Fields is committed to Penn State, and he just got bumped to a five star and is sitting at #8 in the country for Rivals and #6 on 247. I think it will change now that he is on fire in recruiting circles, but I still don't think he ends up in the state of Georgia. I don't even think our #1 player in the state, and even the country, Trevor Lawrence will leave Clemson to come to Georgia. I'd like Alabama to sink their teeth into him, but I don't know what he thinks about Hurts and Tua, though Clemson isn't much better of a situation currently with Hunter Johnson being there. Not to be all on the quarterbacks, but we also have another five star quarterback Emory Jones committed to Ohio State, so yet another big five star out of state to prove a point.

You won't hear it from any of the people who cover recruiting—the vast majority, you won't—but you will hear it from those around the Mal Moore complex. When it comes to talent coming out this year it's really a down year. I'm sure if it's a rival reading that they'll say, "excuses." I tend to trust those doing the evaluation.

Camps start next week, so those point to Bama's class numbers will be losing their footing over the next several weeks. I know there are handful of guys who've committed to Bama but the staff is asking them to hold off on their announcements.

As to Kirby Goff? As long as there's a Blockbuster around where he can rent movies for his family and a few travel agencies his wife can find meaningful employment with, he'll be just fine.

May be putting that house on Lake Oconee up for sale soon if you're interested!

FWIW, I suspect this thread comes from the same place I'm starting to see a lot of threads popping up this morning.

Barnhart was on Greg's show this morning and said "Kirby is putting up a wall around Georgia and keeping all the top recruits in-state." Now, I didn't hear it, but did get a text this morning from a friend in Birmingham who got a big kick out of the statement.

Here's a question for anyone who might know...how did he get the moniker "Mr. College Football?" Self-appointed? Seriously, I don't know and honestly haven't thought about it before this morning.

I intentionally try to stay clear of the early part of recruiting and evaluation. As the high school season progresses and we get closer to signing day I usually know these kids better than some of my relatives. Very exhausting with a lot of the back and forth of what people call a verbal commitment so I'm in no big hurry to get involved before I have to.

Alabama recruiting is a brand, we are the "Rolling Stones" of football royalty and it is basically coming from unprecedented success on the gridiron with a hall of fame coach at the wheel. It's not going to change folks. Saban is relentless and he hasn't changed his approach. By the end of the summer, this brand will once again start taking the recruiting world by storm, creating what everyone else just hates to see, high Tide.

Can't judge this class yet... If that was the case, Alabama would be far down the list.

As far as his coaching, I'd feel more comfortable seeing how he does this year before judging his head coaching abilities.
