Sorry I have not been on this week guys. IKE knocked out the power for several days and I could not get online. I'm looking forward to Saturday.

I thought you guys might like to read a couple of articles from the "Razorback" perspective. WholeHogSports is a site owned by our states largest newspaper. After you click on the Luigs/Cody article go in there and read some more. They have several on the Tide.

NG Terrence Cody

6-5 365 pounds

Jr. Perkinston, Miss.

Season Stats: Made 10 tackles with 4 solo, 3 tackles for 6 yards in losses, 1 quarterback hurry and 1 fumble recovery.

Terrence Cody has only played three games for the Alabama Crimson Tide, but the massive nose guard is fast becoming a legend on the Tuscaloosa campus. Cody, who spent two seasons at Gulf Coast (Miss.) Community College, stands 6-5 and weighs in at 365 pounds, but he has uncommon mobility for a man so large.

Most players as big as Cody, who is now affectionately known as "Mount" Cody by his teammates, are relegated to the offensive line. However the junior's agility, quickness and surprising endurance are being put to use on the defensive front for the Crimson Tide.

With such a mammoth anchor in the middle, it's no wonder Alabama leads the nation in stopping the run, allowing an average of just 42.7 yards per game.

Cody is a one man gang, who often requires a double team for an opponent to even get a stalemate in his gap. He even said so this week, telling the Montgomery Advertiser it would be a mistake if teams do not double team him.

With Cody often occupying two or more blockers in Alabama's 3-4 scheme, linebackers are often free to flow to the football.

Cody, who slept on Spider-Man and Batman sheets in junior college, bench presses nearly 500 pounds and can squat at least 700 pounds. The bar began to bend so coaches had him stop lifting short of his maximum weight.

Thanks for the link.

One thing that caught my eye.

Petrino believes in taking what the defense gives, so if Alabama loads up against the run, expect Arkansas to pass more. That might give Luigs an advantage over the powerfully built "Mount" Cody, who specializes in plugging up running lanes. Pass rushing also forces a defensive lineman to expend more energy, which could allow Luigs and his Razorbacks teammates to press their advantage late in the game.

Part of this I agree with. However, Cody has demonstrated his ability on passing downs as well so I think this is another situation where the author thinks because of his size he would only be used on running downs.

His thought about Luigs and his teammates pressing an advantage late in the game makes sense on face value. That is, until you take into account, we can go 3 deep on our DL right now with very little loss in terms of talent. Heck, our starting NT from last year is now running with the 2's and he's a player.

I'm relatively sure that I saw Cody pull up on rushing against Clemson (or Tulane) to drop into coverage. He really moves well for any size.

TerryP you hit it on the head. Scary to think that Chapman at 305 is a #2 now and we don't miss a beat with Mt. Crushmore out.

Nice write up, thanks for sharing. I curious to see what your thoughts are on Arkansas being off last week due to Ike. Do you think the extra rest will help or hurt your team?

Cody vs. Luigs is going to be about like watching Mt Everest vs Mt McKinley. This is going to be one of the best battles we get to see all year.

I honestly don't think it will be that much of a battle...as a battle, it will be "Granada," and Cody will be the Navy Seals.
