🏈 Has the expansion @ BDS started?

I want to go ahead and apologize if some one has already discussed this topic.

I'm asking because I don't know the answer and I didn't see a topic devoted to it.

So, here's the question.

Has the expansion started @ Bryant Denny?

:P :P

I saw this posted on of all places TD.

103,000 capacity. 4 Jumbotrons lower bowl. 2 scoreboards over both upper decks. When completed for the opener in 2010 ( likely against Penn State), Bryant Denny will be the Premiere on campus facility in America.

The two scoreboards over the upper decks is something I haven't heard before.

But, as to construction starting soon...Gary, the guy who own's Rama Jama's on the corner of Bryant and Wallace Wade is hurting right now with the road being closed...but, he's been told that he needs to hang tight a month or two and there will be plenty of hungry construction workers to feed.

Well that's good news. I love that place and i walk over and buy something every time i go. I'd hate to see it close down. it's As much a part of BDS in my mind as is the Jumbotron.
I still need to get to the Waysider for breakfast @ table #15. I'm planing on taking the kids over for A-day this year.

oh Cr@p. with the construction will we even have A-day this year? How'd they do it the last time?

Scoreboards over the upper decks would be a waste of money. Isn't 4 screens and ribbon boards enought?

I wish they would put the tilted roof over the endzones to match the sidelines for a completed/finished look. It would also be functional for the fans. How much could that cost really?

That depends upon how much advertising $$$ can be brought in on it. (I am not a big fan of this approach.)

Mostly, I think the 4 corners would take us past the point of diminishing returns. Other than making the stadium even taller, what new/more would the board bring? The only good answer would be IF there were JUMBOTRONs on a new scale, which then would make the advertising more difficult to place unless those too were electronic.

Also, NOT having them up there adds to a clean, attractive appearance, IMO.

Go back to the first page where the first idea of the two new scoreboards are mentioned.

Two things to note:

It's never been mentioned before in any of the conversations I've seen and heard about new scoreboards which makes me seriously doubt there is any truth to the idea.

And, to add to that, the suggestion of those scoreboards and what they would be like goes against "common sense" in a architectural sense...in essence, the guy on TD is suggesting they are going to be place on top of the North and South Sides.

For that to happen, on the North, the support system would already have to be in place with the last expansion.

Well regardless we're loooong over due fora new scoreboard/jumbotron. if for no other reason that i can't stand for Ole Miss to be better than us in anything. and from what i've heard there's is amazing. then again....they need something to distract the crowds from the horrid play on the field. lol

This bears mentioning for more than one reason.

I don't disagree with the thought that the old scoreboard is, well, old. It needs to go.

But, one thing you have to just be patient with is what they are doing right now.

With the two new screens (and the two on the way with the expansion) we'll be just fine. The problem right now with those screens in place isn't the screen, but the camera's.

The stadium is still using old (as in 8 years or more) Sony Standard Definition cameras inside the stadium. When they finish the expansion those camera's are going to be replaced with high definition cameras so the action on the field will be a lot clearer, sharper, etc. You'll get what you expect from HD screens and camera's.

As to the score..it's my understanding that'll be up, with the relevant stats, on the ribbon boards.

I can't say I agree with the decision not to replace the cameras when we added the two new screens. BUT, I don't know why they made that decision.

I do know that the CTSN PPV's will be A LOT better when we get new equipment.

I had not heard of it either, but was just commenting on the idea brought up on this post.

I agree in that it goofs with the Fang Shui of the stadium...having boards in the 4 corners with starts on the ribbon boards seems to be clean, symmetrical, and polished. I like it.

Having recently done some HD TV shopping I now have to ask, how much of an HD feed can the screen support? Also, have you heard anything about perhaps upgrading the audio system or installing one of those "suspended-above-the-field" camera systems?
