I found this looking around this morning on the state of Auburn football. Good synopsis.

This is my uneducated opinion, but it is based in a few facts.
The situation that Auburn finds itself in today, saddled with a ridiculous 49 million dollar contract and a mediocre football coach, stems in large part from their fanbase's cultish behavior and distorted view of their actual importance and standing in the world of college football.
The ridiculous expectations held by most of the Auburn faithful is only perpetuated by the constant barrage of garbage that they are constantly fed, and served up daily, by their bought and paid for puppet journalist, who have been disseminating their pre-approved propaganda to the pessants for years, in Lee County.
The common Auburn fans are constantly told by these propagandists, how great their football team is, with the greatest tradition and a magnificent honorable history that rivals all other universities in the world of college football. Afterall Auburn has a creed that proves this. And are also told daily how evil their arch rival The University of Alabama is, cheating in any and every way possible, with only one objective in mind, to destroy the great honorable, upright bastion of educational and social integrity, Auburn University.
These media puppets like, Marshall, Tate, Sallee, Goldberg, and Murphy, to name just a few, who are now bemoaning the situation that Auburn finds itself in with Gus, are the very one's who help create the unreal expectations of their fanbase, which is the fuel that actually drove the Gus Bus off the proverbial cliff.
So, Phillip, Jay the Hero, Sallee, Murphy, Goldberg and the rest of the band of misfit puppet journalist, if you want to begin to assign blame to the raging dumpster fire that is now the Auburn football program, you will not have to walk in further than your bathroom mirror to find your first co-conspirator.
Keep peddling your barn yard manure and telling the Auburn faithful it's chocolate mousse. They'll keep lapping it up until Auburn becomes a bigger national laughingstock than it already is, and ends up having to fight for it's life to keep UAB from replacing Auburn as the little brother to The University of Alabama.
